changing emblems

So I was thinking that since Scion is part of Toyota and the FRS and GT86 are basically the same car minus a few minor details, that I would change the emblems on my FRS. I finished the outside but I still need to change out the stereo or remove the scion label, change out the airbag and change out the floor mats to completely remove any trace of the scion name. I see a lot of people do this. Am I nuts? If the Toyota GT86 was available in the states I would have bought it over the Scion just for the name, even though as I said before they are basically the same car and company. Give my your thoughts but don't bash me too bad...

I have the two "T" badges, but I think the "Toyota" and "GT86" clutters the trunk up. As far as the interior, no one cares, at least I don't. No one sees them anyway unless you like to show your car off (show car).

I'd run clean for sure if there wasn't any holes to fill. I would have already done it the day I got the car. However with body and paint work there's probably no way I'll ever do it... A shame too because so many people would ask "WHAT IS THAT" if they couldn't read.

I think a lot depends on your plans on how long you will be keeping the car. I can't help but think you are bastardizing the car and when the time comes to sell your car your changing out the emblems would have a negative impact on not only the value of your car but also the number of people who would consider buying the car.

Maybe can try two tinny pin to cover the holes. But I dont thing it will be perfect.... The perfect solution should be expensive.

No you're not nuts, Toyota is nuts for badging it a Scion in the first place.

I plan on keeping it for the long haul. No intentions of selling.

I like it and would have done the same if I bought an FR-S. (Love Hot Lava color, but couldn't get past the interior differences, but that is a whole separate topic.)

I had my 05 Scion xB badged as a Toyota bB, right down to the power folding mirrors...I do miss "the Box" some days...

Hey, I was thinking of just getting the Toyota trunk badge (the bottom left one) but I was worried I wouldn't be able to line it up right. How did you do it? Also, were the other badges hard to switch out?

I just used a pink rubber spreader that one would get at an auto parts store for bondo work. It is soft so you can slide it between the body of the car and the emblem without damaging the paint. Once the emblem is off, use a blow dryer to heat up the left over adhesive and "roll" it off with your finger. As far as the placement of the "toyota" badge and the "gt86" badge, there was a document online for placement...basically when converted to inches it came out to about 2.5 inches from the edge of the license plate to the edge of the emblem...both sides. I can't remember off hand what the distance from the edge of the trunk lid was to the bottom of the badge but you can use masking tape as a guide to get the badge level.

Yikes @beaver_scott

I might have to reconsider the bottom left toyota badge then. I know the adhesive that is part of the badge is one time use, I'd hate to have it on their crooked forever

In all honesty, I messed up the first time with the toyota badge. I had to remove it, take off all the adhesive, put new 3m adhesive on the emblem and trim the excess adhesive off of the emblem with a razor blade. When I installed the second time I lightly applied the "a" of the toyota badge while placing a ruler on the bottom of the badge and a specific measurement on the ruler matched up with the bottom edge of the trunk lid and slowly sliding the ruler along the bottom of the badge towards the "t" to make sure it was aligned just right.
