So you're saying there's a night and day difference between an S3 with Touchwiz and an S4 with Touchwiz? Less than a year apart on the release dates? I'm surprised because that's not my perception.

There was 7 months between the release of the S2 and the release of Ice Cream Sandwich and the Holo design convention, the S3 STILL LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE HONEYCOMB. I'm not talking about performance numbers, I'm talking about UI and design, I'm currently on a Google Experience HTC One (I don't plan on reflashing this one) and I think my favorite phone so far (I've been on a couple iphones as well) has been an SGS2 on Cyanogenmod.

I like Android, I like that I can fiddle with it, I don't like how the OEM's have fiddled with it. If I couldn't root and flash my own rom I'd pick Apple over any Android OEM that isn't running as vanilla as possible.

Dunno about the S3, never used one, but friend had an S2 and I have a RAZR; the experience is significantly slower and worse. I hate Touchwiz and will replace it immediately on a Note unless it's necessary for use with the S Pen. You don't need new ROMs if you just put a different launcher on like Nova or Go Launcher EX. I have Go Launcher right now because... I'm not sure. I used it originally a long time ago to replace MotoBlur on my Droid X and really like the factory widgets it comes with (no one else has as good a calendar widget). Plain vanilla Android is great though, and I enjoy that quite a bit on my Nexus 7 tab. After the buyout from Google, Motorola has significantly toned back their phones too... If the Note 3 weren't so amazing, I'd get the Droid MAXX in a heartbeat.

But as much as I hate touchwiz, I would take it over Apple myself. But I don't exist whatsoever in the iUniverse. I don't have an iphone, mac, ipad, or any apple products outside a first gen ipod nano from 2005 to use in my car because playlists > usb drive folders. I don't like their layouts, I don't like a lot of their limitations, I don't like the arrogant attitude of the company, I don't like that everything they make is proprietary and expensive, I don't like the over-simplification of their devices, and mostly, I don't like the "this is how we say it should be, shut up and like it" philosophy they seem to carry every year and with every new device. If you live in the iUniverse with all the other connected devices, they make sense. They don't make sense to me whatsoever. But that's just my opinion. I've had Android phones for almost four years and a Blackberry before that. I value efficiency and versatility over style and flair.

Sorry for the !

This should answer your question:

APPLICATION IOS 6.1.3 IOS 7.0 GM
Safari 1.13 seconds 2.05 seconds
Camera 1.9 seconds 2.63 seconds
Settings 1.31 seconds 1.88 seconds
Mail 1.0 seconds 1.50 seconds
Messages 1.57 seconds 2.80 seconds
Calendar 1.23 seconds 1.78 seconds
Phone 0.67 seconds 2.37 seconds
Cold boot to lock screen 31.14 seconds 45.13 seconds
The average delay on there is 0.5 seconds longer. Half a second. You almost won't even notice anything except for booting. To say it doesn't handle it too well is overstating things. In real life, not on some stat sheet with numbers, ios7 is nearly identical.

The avg is more than 0.5, so how many apps do you open and close a day, a week, a month? Its easily minutes wasted by the end of a week from an 'update'... aside from itunes radio where is the actual benefit?

120 app openings would be only 1 minute extra. So about 1 minute per day.

And to me, the most useful thing is the menu that comes up from the bottom with the most-used things on it. I don't even use itunes radio

1min a day is 30 a month, or over 5 hours a year in extra time waiting for your apps to open because of your upgrade.

Isnt that just the running apps that would normally pop up if you double tap the home button?

Iphones just kind of are what they are, stock for stock I'd probably prefer ios over sense or touchwiz, but I'd pick cyanogenmod or stock in a heartbeat.

By the way, had my phone (HTC One GE) bluetooth connected to my car last night, got a phone call, the car rang, pressed the call button on my head unit, answered the phone, and hung up all without taking my eyes off the road, my music even picked up where it left off. Do you want to answer the phone with your voice?

Lots of nifty things you can do, maybe you can find a solution?

Sorry for the threadjack.
Not sure, I think the stock UI is okay, but it's definitely extremely slow. CM7 on my old crap single core phone was faster in response (but didn't have smooth graphics). Need to dump the stock ROM soon, when I feel unlazy. I think Samsung did a horrible job here. That said, I don't understand how iPhone users live without a universal back and menu button, those two make life so simple.

I have a dinosaur head unit with no bluetooth connectivity and my convertible is too loud for phone calls anyways, but I am still hoping someday there's some phone that has good noise suppression, a mic in a good location, and has a voice activated dialing thing that doesn't get every word I say wrong.

I agree that there's extra time, I'm just saying that I don't think it's as noticeable as some people (not you) make it seem. Kinda like shedding 1 pound on a 2800 pound car, you won't really notice.

I had to look it up, it's called Control Center. It's most of the stuff you had to double tap the button and go into settings for

I actually didn't really care about the 5S, but this new slow motion feature after you take the video is pretty cool

lol late post but, very true. Look at apple's history.

1 Steve starts apple and its soaring upwards making good products and profit.
2- steve leaves apple and it crumbles to shit.
3- steve returns and apple soars again!
4- steve dies... where is apple going to go now, I wonder ?

haha but at the end of the day I think this is the only differences between iphone and android

1- android is great for freedom, your free to upload music or anything else in an easy and non restrictive way AND your encouraged to mod the shit out of it. BUT its never exactly just right, there are bugs sometimes that occur and its not the smoothest thing in the world

2- apple makes the sexiest (personal opinion) and smoothest ( actual fact) operating software. BUT its completely useless unless you want to use it exactly the way apple wants you to. forget your friends music library, you cant upload it on the fly and forget about cracking it because if you do you loose the only apple advantage (the fact it runs smoothly).

at the end of the day I tell my grand-ma to get an iphone and my brother to get and android !

p.s : also I have heard iphone will be getting widgets. but don't take my word for it lol XD.

p.p.s: lastly the iphone has one other advantage, because only apple makes phones running on ios, they also only have one phone models and anyone who is making cases, radios or anything phone compatible will make it iphone compatible before all else!

After having IOS7 on my iPhone 4 for a couple weeks now I can definitely say... DON'T DO IT.

It's awful. The Iphone4 isn't powerful enough for it. It lags, hangs, fails and other little annoyances. It's like they purposely designed it to ruin the iPhone 4 experience to get more people to upgrade to the 5.

I want to go back so goddamn bad. iOS7 friggin' sucks and to be frank I don't think it actually does anything better, well at least on this phone.
