The boss 302 will not fit we measured it. The most common swap people come to me for is the LS3. Here is a price break down.

Engine trans combo from GM performance: $11,675
Drive shaft: $450
new engine harness: $2100
new tune: $575
Exhaust: $800
Total: $15,600 (not including labor if you plan on having a shop install it)

Most people that call me asking about the swap have a $16,000 budget.

most regear the rear end but it is not entirely necessary.

Hope this helps give you a better idea of what is all involved in doing a swap on these cars. This is also for a brand new motor (long block) and trans you can pick up a rebuilt one for much cheaper.

Spend every last cent you want to spend getting 400whp and put it towards learning how to properly drive the car.

These cars are plenty quick on a track with stock HP, you really have no idea what you're getting into wanting 400whp. 400whp in these cars is about the same power to weight ratio as a new Porsche 911 Turbo, with way less grip and less brakes.

This!

At your age, and this is not a diss, you have not had a lot of time to develop muscle and sens memory that you need to drive a 400whp fr-s. Unless you have been racing carts for years anyway. Couple that with the fact that we all tend to to stupid shit from time to time as we grow up.........

Nothing wrong with learning the ins and out of modding and being and auto tech etc etc, but.... a fast car can make most drivers you look fast, a fast driver can make most cars go fast.

Spend a little money on HPDE's or other advanced driver training programs like skip barber (just an exanple, not the best value out there imo).

My vote is spend a couple grand on driver training, a couple grand on wheels and tires, 4 grand on an innovate supercharger... then you can laugh at all the V8's you beat up on at road course.

The wisest words my father may have ever said were demanding i get a piece of shit for the first few cars because they just would be beat into the ground/crashed.

He was right on all counts.

My kids will be getting boats as their first cars. Under-engined, pitiful boats that understeer like mofos and feature '80s Cadillac-style psychosteer.

You are very correct when you start making crazy power is a car that was not designed for it you have to look at all the supporting mods like breaks and cooling. Leave the big spending to the older gentlemen that are well established in their carrers and have the experience to handle a car like that. Even with all my driving experience the 530whp FR-S I drove was no longer fun and easy going but a handful that I had to fight to keep on the track. It totally changes the car and what you fell in love with when you bought it will never be there again. In my opinion be happy with what you have and enjoy the car for what it is.

I veiw this car a lot like the supra it was never ment to be a crazy hp car and the people that do get there realize they have made something that is good at nothing it's not an 8 second muscle car down the drag strip and it's over powered its chassis to be on a road course or autocross. They have made a novelty car and I feel personally if you over power the FR-S or BRZ you will have a car that's good at nothing but saying you have more hp than everyone else and you can do nothing with it.
