Boss 302 engine in a FRS?
I was wondering if this engine could be swapped with a scion fr-s? If so, estimated, how much would it cost? and If I wanted to supercharge it also, would I have to still get a vortex supercharger for scions? Thank You

The 5.0 motor is a DOHC V8, so short version, it probably won't fit. The actual external dimensions of the motor are massive. The GM LSX engines are physically much smaller and they will fit nicely in the FR-S' engine bay. The Vortech S/C for the FA20 is much too small for any modern V8. It didn't appear there would be enough room in the front of the LS1 swap for a centrifugal supercharger anyways. You would most likely be looking at a positive displacement (twinscrew) supercharger and some clever hood modifications. However, that's a moot point as there's no need for forced induction if you're doing a V8 swap into a car this light, as naturally aspirated LSX engines can easily exceed 500 horsepower. Considering the torque curve, even a 300 horsepower stock LS1 would be pretty damned violent in this chassis. There are several threads regarding the LS1 swap, just use the search feature to read up.
Just my $0.02. Also nice first post rofl. |

Thank you for such a fast reply. If I wanted my frs to produce about 400hp, what would I have to do then?

Must succinct way would be a turbo setup. Go take a peak at the "Forced Induction" part of the forum. Many many kits available to hit the 400 horsepower mark without massively reworking the car. Some start around $6K but expect to spend $10K on kit + supporting modifications.
Out of curiosity, just based on your age, what's the reason for the 400 horsepower mark? They don't really excel at drag racing. Many superior alternatives if that's your aim. |

I know this comes across as a **** comment, but if you don't know much about cars yet, then you should do lots of research before throwing 400whp at your 2700lb car. Start researching about turbo kits for our cars, read as many threads as you can. Learn about the limitations of this engine on pump gas, and why. And then learn how E85 can improve on those numbers. I know its a lot to learn all at once, but its taking me almost 15 years and I still don't have a 400whp car. But I know now when I do, it will be done right. I have made lots of mistakes in my modding days. Go get some magazines too and just read as much as you can. Good luck!
