You must be reading my mail, pal.

In fairness, a great company like Toyota could drop an impeccable inline-4 into a rwd car, perhaps the FR-S, and the good times would return once again. But I guess we're stuck with a Scion-badged Subaru that has a ridiculously over-complcated head.

Sorry for killing the buzz . . . . :happy0180:

I used this stuff the other day, picked it up at the auto store, i must say i was hesitant when people said that fuel additives work, but i was actually surprised! the product claim is that it " improves performance, cures E-10 ethanol problems, stabilizes fuel and more." It seems to run smoother and there are 0 crickets! Its hard to get the measurement right since the bottle is so small but less than .5oz for the tank, i accidentally put like .75oz in it.

This a non issue if you're over 40 because high pitch hearing is the first to go

But on a serious note has Toyota measured the DI pump new vs say 10k miles with E10+crickets? If there is no drop in output pressure then they can say this is a non-issue. If the pumps pressure is gradually dropping then its a problem.

I'm still on the same tank, ive only been driving a couple of miles to and from work lately. Everything sounds good still, nice smooth idle at 600rpm.

Posted this in another thread, thought I'd share it here where it is appropriate:

May 2013 mfg date purchased August 2,2013, 10 series FR-S, crickets began at exactly 2400 miles. Spent yesterday morning at the dealership and it wouldn't do it when they pulled it in 1 hour after I got there. It was quiet all day. This morning when it warmed up it came back with a vengeance. They told me when it happens again drive straight there and they'll get it in. The regional service rep told them that the problem was fixed. The service writer was standing right there when I pulled up and heard the noise. He told the rep that it has not been fixed on my car at manufacture, so the rep wants them to be absolutely sure it is the high pressure fuel pump. Then he will be in contact with Toyota America. I'm hoping to get it to them Saturday morning first thing.

So I take my car in to the dealer, and they finally hear the chirp. So some senior mechanic is invited over to check the noise. The original service guy and the service writer who heard the noise the first time were also there. This "senior guy immediately grabs a can of silicon spray and shoots it allover the belt, says "that'll fix it", and walks away. He turns back and declares "i'll be darned". (I cringed as I keep the engine and bay spotless on all of my cars). After a few more minutes I had to leave so as not to become angry at the lead mechanic dopey guy. The young guy already had it figured out and gave me an understanding nod. Thirty minutes later the service writer comes back and says "you were right, it is the high pressure mechanical fuel pump, but we had to make sure. Your VIN falls outside of the TSB and we can now go to Toyota and tell them the problem still exists on the newer VIN cars. We can't call them until monday, then we will order a new fuel pump and get it in for you." Hopefully that takes care of it. Mine is really loud. Sometimes it won't do it at idle, but increase RPM from 600 to 800 and it is silly loud. It stops around 1400 RPM. Thanks to all who have posted info on this. It really helped getting the info to properly address the problem. Believe it or not, the service writer said it made it easier and quicker not going through all of the normal service flow charts because I was so adamant that the problem was the HP fuel pump. I had even taken a piece of broom handle and put against the fuel pump and the other end to my ear. It was clearly the pump making the noise. I hope this fixes it, if not I hope Toyota gets off their arse and fixes it. Now to clean my engine and engine bay.

The fact that this has been a known issue for well over a year and that dealership didn't know about it and thought it was a belt? I wouldn't let those retards touch my car. Considering it should say right in their little computer, hey, there's a fuel pump TSB.

Don't waste your time dude. You're just going to get another chirping pump.

The dealership service writer and the young mechanic knew. It was this old fat slob of a mechanic that did the belt thing. It is really really loud. No way they're not fixing it. I have to go 60 miles for another dealer

Several hundreds have gotten pumps replaced. It doesn't work. Wait till a new TSB with a new part number. You'll thank me later.

Yeah I went and had mine done with the new "green dot" one...still the same...stupid crickets...so I've been battling with Subaru corporate and they keep saying that "at this time this sound is considered 'normal operation' so nothing more can be done" the fact that they're calling it "normal" is very disconcerting.

I just bought the Star brite® Star Tron® - Fuel Treatment stuff today and omw there the crickets were loud as usual and when I bougbt it I got back in the car and they were loud all the way to the gas station. When I got to the gas station I followed the instructions and put the right amount of the stuff in my gas tank then filled it to the brim with shell 93 and when I started the car it had the cricket s for like 10 sec then poof it was gone im goin to say there like 95% gone it made a huge difference. Now I dont sound like a cricket sittin in traffic lol. Ill keep yall posted if things change. ;-)
