Actually CR doesn't really make more HP. I did a 10.5CR test in my STI and it made almost no difference in HP on the dyno. It ends up being a trade off as you have to reduce timing to making up for the higher CR. Where it helped was off boost, which was very snappy! Actually that picture is from my engine with the 10.5CR pistons and then a boost hose coming off the WG.

For these new engines, the Direct Injection will really help with controlling knock and I think that we can get decent safe power without having to tear into the motor. But who knows!

well im talking about low boost situations like 5-8 psi of boost higher CR(11.5:1 in my 2zz-ge) does net larger hp numbers at the expense of less gas than if i were to drop to a lower CR( lets say 9.0:1 in the same engine) timing is not so much of an issue at these psi levels, high psi levels lower CR is a must or some awesome high octane fuels

in celicas a 11.5 at 9psi would run about the same whp as a 9.0 at 12-13psi

Hey Jeff,

Perhaps I should call instead...but can you hook up to the ECU and grab some info? Quirt and Bill aren't sharing from when they plugged up to the Scion and SOA is bieng a bitch towards Me, Clint (Turn In Concepts) and Justin (Grimspeed).

I just really want to know about the HPFP operating pressure and injector duty cycles at WOT.

Thanks,
Micah

You are right that making the same HP with lower compression means more boost. The only thing is that Direction Injection really changes those normal rules. We can run 25-28psi on 10.0 CR Mini engines all day, only because the direct injection allows for a near det free environment at those levels. Its not det free, but its very forgiving that is for sure!

i know, low boost, im keeping my CR stock till i get a track FR-S, Perrin, do you have any idea how soon you can get a crate engine from subaru(FA20)? i want to put 1 on a stand and build it as parts become available, but have done some research but havnt turned up the time manufactures start making crate engines available to the public... thats what im really interested in... as do a few others on this forum as well...

edit: considering this is a new engine that is

We have no way to get these either. The 2.5 and 2.0 FB engine are easily had but no DI setup on them. Everyone always thinks that we get special treatment on these new cars, but i hate to say we don't. Subaru doesn't do anything for us, other than sell us a new car at retail. It sucks! We have a good connection with a dealer that gets the first batch of new Subarus, so we have one a few days before others. The getting the small parts like engines, pistons, swaybars things like that are almost impossible for the first 3 months. So don't break anything on your BRZ/FR-S!

so your pretty much saying that it gonna be 6 months AT LEAST before we can get a crate engine?... sounds about right and no i dont believe yall get special treatment, toyota has choosen who they wan to have the car early and have a few sets of engines n cars at their disposal, up until its released to the public and demand has be satisfied, the chances of us getting stuff will be at their digression,

i was just curious how long that normally takes

i personally will break at least 1 block getting a good tune down for low boost on stock internals... before i have 1 ready to go into my car...
