No reason to lock it. My post was an opinion just like yours. There's no angry attacks, trolling, etc.

I know that. But everyone keeps saying their own opinion that it should be locked and that it's a flame war. So I'm doing as I'm told before I get in trouble again by the wise smartasses of FT86Club.

The dealer should have fixed your problems without hesitation. I can see why you are frustrated.

TO me, if the shifter makes clunking motions to get into gear with the clutch fully depressed, it's a problem. I'm up to almost 3k miles now and its still here so i'll bring it back again and again over the next 2 years until they fix this shit. Or hopefully it will get bad enough to where it's completely damned obvious that the transmission sucks and needs a fix.

Husker, can't really point the finger at Toyota, point it at Subaru. If this was a 100% designed Toyota, it wouldn't have these issues. I'm not being a fanboi, just been in and around Toyota's since the 80's.
If the car is causing more headache than happiness, just sell it. I hear ya on the minor things and having a new car with so many issues would drive me crazy too. The 90's Japanese cars have proven that you can have good quality at entry, mid and high prices. That's why a lot of import car enthusiasts still go back to them. My Integra was considered "entry level" and yet was high quality and bulletproof. I don't see why the FR-S and BRZ can't do the same. Times have changed but don't skimp the consumer. Even though it's a new model vehicle, it's a shame that folks are having this many issues. This is not right but at the same time, this explains why I see FR-S' sitting on the lots of most dealerships.

Even your bulletproof Integra has little issues that will plague all cars: http://www.clubintegra.com/board/showthread.php?t=22271 I find the radiator one interesting though, my family had an '85 Honda and that radiator went bad too. If reading forum posts about these issues are really scaring off buyers then what are they buying instead? Miata? Mustang? S2000? All have their own host of issues that either get solved by the OEM in the first couple of years or the little things that affect all cars (leaks, rattles, parts that require redesign etc.). Hell even the 'legendary' cars like 240sx had design issues that didn't get noticed and solved for years (chain guide). |

I ended up selling my GSR with 275,xxx miles and the only major thing that went wrong was replacing the clutch @ 120K and the 3rd syncro @ 250K. This was with a 80 shot direct port in it's early years and then a T3/T4 turbo. Yeah, I had the stuck antenna, the crease on the door panel arm rest, the squeaking rear hatch, the oem radio code, windows fogging up when it rains. Honestly, it was still a bad ass car for 21K back then and that's what gave it character. Bringing it to Acura was like bringing your car to Lexus; the customer service was good. Yeah but it is built in FHI. I have a near mint MKIV Supra and that thing has the squeaky hatch and 90's looking interior but damn it's a Supra built by Toyota. If this car was 100% Toyota and not a joint venture, I believe the outcome would have been different... sort of like how a parent loves their own child vs the love of their step child.

I feel your pain OP.
There are plenty of other viable options i could have purchased for less, but i decided on a FR-s because it was an exciting platform, looks great and bought "NEW" because it comes with a warranty, should be dependable and because it is backed by TOYOTA. I figured i would tweak a few things to make it original and my own. However, i have been having so many similar issues that the car remains completely stock out of fear that any warranties will be rejected over any aftermarket parts. Never been tracked or even an aggressive canyon drive, haven't changed a single part on the car, yet: -I have constant issues with grinds from the transmission -Incredibly load crickets -several buzzes and ticks that will not go away -Issues with shoddy build quality -Horrible service from dealership -Dealership told me they couldn't replicate. The service rep was very helpful, but the actually mechanics couldn't solve anything. He even pushed to have the Factory tech drive the car on his monthly visit. I took him for a drive and replicated the issue several times. Told me they would change the fluid and to just drive it until it breaks... great. So in the mean time, i cannot change any suspension parts or lower it as i wanted(only a modest 1" drop) cant change to the wider, lighter wheels i wanted. Forget any sort of performance MOD. Usually i wouldn't sweat that with a new car, because i expect the parts i'm not changing to actually function. Therefor, i cant have the fun with the car that i bought it for. -Live in Cali, the ethanol content of our awful gas here is going to keep making the crickets come back even if i replace the pump. I have accept that and can live with it, but its still annoying. -I have literally taken apart the entire dash and center console to eliminate the several noises. I have taken care of them all except for a very annoying buzzing that seems to be coming from the area to the left of the gauge cluster. The only thing i can think of is that it is something resonating/vibrating within the Gauge cluster unit itself.... A sealed unit. I understand a few noises with a new platform and all that, but the amount of them I'm getting is sort of ridiculous. And its not just me being over sensitive to the noises, several passengers have pointed out the noises as well... -I have found several loose bolts while doing maintenance as well as bushings that were bone dry and didn't appear to have been lubed. Also have several factory paint flaws. -The service rep i have worked with has been great, but the people doing the work have been incompetent and done more bad than good. They knicked my rim, but i didn't see it til the next morning, chipped the paint off the passenger door jam, did see it because the door was closed. and scratched the hell out of my driver side window. I saw that right away and they replaced it. They also spilled oil when doing the oil change and never wiped it up. Spilled trans fluid down the side of the trans and never wiped it up. I know this wont cause any sort of damage or anything like that, but how hard is it wipe up a spill? I am not trying to rant, just saying that all of the harsh responses to the OP are unwarranted. Just because you aren't having the same issues with your car, doesn't mean there aren't several other cars having issues. I know i have about a dozen threads i am subscribed to that are about the same issues or even DIY's on how to mend issues that dealerships have been unwilling to help with. And about the college kid having a more expensive car than you did when you were in school; who are you o assume that he has not been responsible with his finances, knows how to manage a loan and works hard. I know i make a measly wage, but i also don't drink much or hang out at bars, buy stuff i don't need and have been living on my own since 18, yet i can afford the car. I don't see why he couldn't as well.

The only issue here is a shady dealer pissing off a customer. Nobody would really complain if things got fixed in a reasonable manner like your experience with Acura. |
