an FRS is bought. by anyone who has the money. a medal that's truly earned isn't bought by money, and if it is, it means nothing.

my car wasn't given either. i earned it with my own sweat, blood and tears. i didn't own a BRZ before and now i own one, so i guess i gained something i didn't have before.

but you know what, before i did that, i went to college then worked for 23 years. and you know what i drove the entire time until march 2013? the same car that i drove in high school. yes, i waited until i was 45 to buy my first new car for myself. because i felt that i had finally earned it, after putting my education, a roof over my head and my family before a new car.

we don't know shit about you. you don't know shit about us. just because you may have gone through tough times doesn't give you the right to assume that other people who reply to this thread you've started haven't, or to address them in that manner.

you started this thread to vent. you're going to get replies you may not like. too bad - that's what happens when you vent on a public forum.

quit waiting for hookups. make your own. it's called 'talking to people'.

Its funny you say that, I said most, not all. I didn't borrow a penny from my parents since I started high school. I made enough money to survive on my own and even bought my own car during senior year. Technically speaking I don't even have parents.

Everyone has their own priorities.. some would sacrifice food for material things, I sacrificed a roof for education.

I've been homeless before, sleeping in a car beats sleeping in a tent.

What most of you don't understand is that I worked hard to get to where Iam now. My FRS is my pride and joy, Its a constant reminder of what blood, sweat, tears can make of a man. You might treat your FRS as just a car but some people see their car as something more special.

With that being said, would you ever sell your pride for something temporary?
So you didnt answer my question of which college you're at. If you're at a junior college, then maybe you can stick it through since it's much cheaper (overall). If you're at a UC, you probably should reconsider a few things.

I hope you're not being snobby about where you work, do what it takes man. Run delivery for a pizza joint, the tips can work out pretty well -- some place that will give you extra cash.

I can't imagine sleeping in that car with it's small size (unless you're < 5'9"), though I do remember sleeping wherever I could when I was on campus/library.

If you're gonna have a hard time getting by, then why not "Yolo" your way back up to where you were and work? Sounded like you were better off?

Wow just reading some of the comments shock me. Do you people not realize you don't pay for your schooling until your finished. FASFA if used correctly is just a loan, mostly through great lakes. Now you can also apply for grants and with the money you can use it towards living expenses such as food and rent. If you straight out own your car I wouldn't sell it, I would keep it get a part tome job or two and not worry about you student loans until you are 80% finished with your education. Once you finish school just remember you can differ payment if you don't have income or have low income. Just look long and hard for work and look on campus postings for roommates and pay a fraction of the living expenses you would normally spend living on your own.

Sounds like you are use to making things work so just do what you have to do

This.

Easiest "job" I ever had and you'd be amazed how much homework you can get done if you're working on the graveyard shift. The Security Guard Managers are generally too lazy to come check on you more than once a night.

Also you could always join a fraternity. You can eat their food, manage to conveniently pass out on the couch at the house every other day, and then wake up and use their showers. Of course the semester long (or more) pledge period sucks.

So am I supposed to feel like a victim to understand the pros and cons of hardship, hard work, and reward?

Not sure where you are going with this but more power to you if you can make it work living out of your car.

Unlike a car, a medal doesn't depreciate in value (assuming it is made of precious metals).

I still view a medal as an asset, if push came to shove. I suggest you view your "trophies" in life the same way, especially those that you can touch and feel and sell/resell.

You can buy and sell a car anytime. You can't buy and sell memories and accomplishments.

I decided to go CSU, since the UC's I got into are the ones I straight up can not afford. I agree with you about networking and who you know, thats why I said its alot easier to get a job if you got a degree or know certain people (:

Listen man, not sure what age you are but; were probably around the same ballpark. As far as labeling people and what they been through in life and having pity amongst yourself, change your views man; we've all been there and done it(I know i have). There's not an obstacle I did not overcome and never had remorse for myself when I struggled. As said from everyone else your priorities are most important, I bought my vehicle once I finally was situated with a good change in my account just in case things go wrong. Im 21, paying a mortgage, attending school, working full time, paying all my expenses and still my boxing regime 5 days a week as well. It's how hungry you are in making things work in life; and eating cuponoodles every single day would in my eyes be the dumbest decision you can ever make. Personally, I'd let my ego go and sell the vehicle, have good living conditions in a cheap apartment, eat right most important and live comfortably. Your in socal the weathers beautiful all year round buy yourself a nice Mountain/City bike and save money on insurance and gas. Whatever you do GL!

quit waiting for hookups. make your own. it's called 'talking to people'.

Money is earned, not given. So is muscle and strength. What we own is is because we worked for it, its up to the individual if they appreciate what they have. Rich people usually dont.

I agree, I don't know shit about you and you don't know shit about me and I won't assume yall had it easy unless you give me a reason to assume. It's easy to assume based on how an individual approaches a subject of discussion.

When did I ever say or implied that I was waiting for hookups. Of course you have to talk and get to know people. How do you suppose you make connections. Again, I just got here you cant expect me to have connections to Obama in just a week.

i'm just responding to what you write - i don't know if there's more to it. i took it to mean that hookups weren't an option. you didn't expand any further than that about etsablishing your own hookups.

Im tired, to end this thread I just want to say it's not easy being poor, much like a Porsche Forum I do not expect some of you to understand what it means to finally have something nice after a life time in rags and hunger. To me this car has sentimental value, and if you understand the concept of sentimental value then you should know it (whatever "it" may be) should mean alot to you. I do not want to give it up for a temporary place to stay where I would not even be comfortable living at. I hope you guys can understand my point of view. if you can not I won't be mad and be hella hard headed, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But just because you are entitled doesn't always make us right. /:

Stay in school. You can sleep there, brush your teeth, work there, and financial aid would probably get you a meal plan card.

wow.. sentimental value or not, you as a person need to come first. the car can be replaced, you lesser so. i understand the sentimental value-- my dad had a custom ordered truck-- the only new vehicle he's ever bought.. i grew up in that truck, and it pained me to see him sell it due to financial hardship.. pained me even more to see what the new owner did to 'my childhood'.. i don't ask my dad about it because i think it pains him even more.. but the entire family is in better financial shape because of it, we're all healthy, with no serious problems, and in the end that's what's most important. i plan to buy a truck of the same year some day and restore it to what that truck had been, the cost of such an idea doesn't matter to me-- it might be a century from now, and it will never be the same truck(the original has rotted away), but it's not the sheet metal that mattered, it's the experiences, memories, and life lessons i had that involved it.

and when most of these guys say to go buy a used beater to get you around town, they mean a $1,000-2,000 something--the kind with 4 wheels and a running engine.. no a car like that isn't pretty, and it won't win any awards, or guarantee a date next saturday, but as long as it keeps rolling, it's doing its job..

i'd say i've been there, but i've only partly been there. i was laid off back when the housing bubble burst, but only after racking up a few thousand in debt from buying gas, just trying to get to work, only to work 10-20 hours a week. at the time, my boss and i both believed 'it would get better soon'. after that, i went 3 months without a job-- not for lack of trying, or because i had any stipulations or salary requirements, just no one would hire me, or even give me an interview..

it's been 5 years and 2 jobs since then, i've finally paid off all the debt i had, had a newer car-- which finally put me onto the track i thought i should have been on-- just recently sold it, which ended me up here, to research my next purchase..

but all that said, i know these days are even tougher to find a job-- my sister has been going through it for a while now, she's filled out so many applications, i think some places have required applications just to submit an application.. i hear rumors of 100+ app's for a single simple part time job at mcdonalds, many from 40+ people or college grads looking to make ends come closer together, not even meet anymore..

and lastly, i say this, because i think you need to hear it. money from a job is not earned, it is an exchange for services rendered. money from an allowance is earned because it is not legally required to be given and is usually based on attitude. i believe it is a mistake to confuse the two, and it changes other parts of a persons perspective, of which, i can't think of any examples at the moment...
