I could have gotten quite a bit more out of them if I actually rotated or flipped them (I didn't bother). They are also not looking to be "cycled out" as my results have actually improved in the last couple of events. All this at the cheapest price of all of the competitive tire choices: $153 each.

Of the Hankooks, Dunlops, and Rivals, it seems to be almost a dead heat between which is fastest, and all of them can be run full-tread without them chunking themselves to death. My problem with the Toyos is that it just isn't really a streetable street tire. I got into ST so I didn't have to change tires at an event, and that is exactly what I do.

I like the idea of a "spec tire", but finding a consensus on that tire might be difficult - especially since the best choice might be different for each car.

I'm not convinced the Rivals worth $50 more per tire than the Hankooks (even though most of my competitors who have switched to them have gone faster once they did - but they were previously running Dunlops or Toyos), and I'm not big on the "peakiness" I've heard about with the Dunlops (though I have not driven them). (and I don't even want to consider the expensive-ass Yokohamas - glad to see they've pretty much gone away).
A local STR Miata ran a season on them with driving to and from events. Started in early March then ran them at the NJ and DC pros. With multiple events and lots of co-drivers and runs throughout the summer as well. Not too bad I guess. No idea on the number of runs. Some tires wear better than others. Hankooks and BFGs being at the higher end of the spectrum.

And don't discount the Yokohama AD08R. It is definitely a player as well as Kumho V720 next year. Then if Goodyear actually brings their tire over.. yikes..

What Goodyear tire are you talking about? The Eagle RS Sport?

Yes, the RS Sport. Probably not happening though. My guess is because it would only take market share away from the ZII.

I can see that. I keep forgetting Goodyear owns Dunlop. When I saw the RS Sport at Tokyo Auto Salon this year the tread pattern looked similar to the ZII.

This year I ran Dunlop ZII's, 235/40/17 on stock rims. Next year I will probably get the same thing on lighter wheels like Enkei Rp01's. Is there any benefit I could see from considering 225/40 (45?)/17 instead of 235's? IS the grip similar or better with the narrower tire?

On the Z2, the 225 and the 235 seem to work well, since it has such a stiff sidewall. The 225/45 will have a bit taller gearing so slightly slower acceleration. Im thinking of going 235/40/17 ZII from my 215/45 RS3.

Thanks, I really like the 235 ZII's they seem about right width wise to me, they feel stiff, and no fit issues. I don't want to go to 45's for the gearing change reason. It is hard enough to accelerate out of slow corners as it is.

I'm considering it, but only if the Mustangs stay in STX as well (instead of moving to STU like is being talked about). I enjoyed switching back and forth in RTR between my Mustang and BRZ this year, was hoping to do the same in STX next year.

Let me start by congratulating Jeff on his win in Lincoln.

There was a great mix of cars in Stx and through the trophies. Shame if the rumor I heard is true that the spac recommended the twins to STR. That would remove 22% of the entries. And if we learned anything from this year it's that STX was a great battleground.

Regarding tires. There is no reason to ban any tire, this is getting to be like banning books for heaven's sake. And we treied to float spec tires in stock with R6's since most everyone runs Hoosier and they make tires for all cars. Non starter,so I doubt highly that would fly in ST. But with the wacky weed this seb has been smoking, one can never tell.

As for the revavling of the Koni's for the car. I would also ask why. I run off the shelf shocks to every title I own, and John L. Was 2nd in John Ryan's car on OTS Koni's beating cars with $4k shocks.... And in SS OTS Koni's beat mega dollar shocks on other Corvette's, and AS was won on OTS Koni, just like it was the two years before (and this year the 2012 champion was running mega dollar dampers), he did not lose by much, about the same as what he won by last year. YMMV

How would this even be a possibility? It did well, but did not dominate this year. And next year, they are removing E85 (aren't they?) which will further slow STX BRZs down.

Really? That makes no sense to me.
