On a side note, was the information pulled from the ECUTEK flashed ECU somehow "messy" compared to a stock rom? You mentioned it needed editing...
Not messy per se. Just very poorly mapped.

I don't claim to be up to date on all these tuning solutions, and don't want to turn this into a vs thread, but how is this different than say, brzedit?

I've got "stock" Ecutek maps from both Perrin and Moto-East, they are not locked. I find it somewhat strange you could read a locked Ecutek map and edit it... I wonder how it deals with something like Racerom which is additional code inserted into the ECU firmware.

If the patches were done anything like Bill did with RomRaider, it won't matter. He changed commands in place without disrupting the locations of any other data. Worst case is the data would be shifted and easy enough to find.

It's a handheld programming device, so if you don't want to lug a laptop around with you then it's a little more convenient. It doesn't require purchasing both the software and a Tactrix cable.

It doesn't have the datalogging capability of BRZEdit though, at least not yet.

ok so just to be perfectly clear. If you have flashed with ecutek even if you go back to stock at this time this product can not be used is that right?

All the mapping data I saw seems to be the original place. Which would presumably allow for easy user tunability using the tablet with our XDF files. There is definitely a lot of new code added on areas that used to be filled with FF. I suspect that is their custom code for mapswithing, extra maps, and such. Pretty cool.

I have confirmed that the stock file that ecutek gives you isn't 100% stock. It has the words "tuned file" written near the top of the rom. Along with some other markers that aren't stock. I believe this is how the ecutek programming software determines if the ecu, even when flashed back to "stock", has an ecutek license.

if i recall correctly, i remember when i had to go back to stock for my first CEL, i told my tuner i had to go back to stock. I met up with him and there was a special process that needed to be done to get back to a fully original rom where the ecu read no flashes and when i was done the tuner had to reissue me a new license
