Simply ground the slot next to the mute wire (yellow/black). You can move the mute wire over or just insert a wire into the empty slot and make sure its tight and won't work itself loose over time...bypass done. No additional money squandered on relays and switches.

Finished product

On this model or any app radio from pioneer the ground for handbrake has to be applied after the unit is on or it will not perform a bypass!

Also if you have a jail broken ios device download appextensions. Shit is awesome. And you won't need the bypass.

If you buy a relay from a parts store and have the relay triggered by the remote/amp wire it will work great as it doesn't send voltage till the radio is fully turned on.

If you insist. I chimed in to help. If you look at my post, I listed 2 wires to ground not 1. 1 wire the Pioneer radio checks voltage after it is powered on, the other is already grounded (i.e. mimicking a switch) eliminating the need for an additional external relay and external switch.

But yeah I don't know what I'm talking about...it's best you disregard what's posted in my signature.

Haha dont get so butt hurt dude. I didn't know about that wire switching thing you just did either, although I have heard it mentioned before. Im an electrician and know how relays work so that seemed like the easiest thing for me to do. Good info on the wires though Saves $5

Same style relay that comes in lighting wiring harnesses and stuff like that. $5 at AutoZone. Power goes to the head unit, turns the head unit on first then switches the relay to a ground. It won't work otherwise
Oh so they are more advanced now than they used to be

I used just the USB port on the radio and plugged in my iPod and it brought up the play list but wouldn't produce any sound. I then took a head phone jack cable and plugged it in to the headunit and my iPod along with the USB cable and that worked. Displayed the iPod on the screen and produced sound but had a strange pulsing static sound to it. So after talking to my buddy who works in car stereo, he told me I need that 30 pin cable. It should come in the iPod connection cable pack that you can buy with the radio. Since I have an android, I bought the cable kit for it but also needed the iPod cable.

So to answer your question further ..... It doesnt appear that an iPod will work without either a USB + head phone jack plugged into it or that 30 pin cable so even if you hooked up that stock USB port then it would only display info but play no sound. What I did think about doin, which I think I'm gonna try, is just powering that stock USB port so that it can serve as a charger. I have a car charger for my phone but it takes up a lot of space in the center console so if I could just plug in a cable to that USB port and charge my phone then that would be very useful for me
Thanks for the response. Im starting my install tomorrow

just saw all these posts here lol, apparently the newer pioneer radios require a double trigger for it to work, that is why i purchased a "digital" relay, thre is a bigger relay you can use however it doesnt look as clean, anyways, lemme know how it goes

youtube video of random relay:

also, because i am using a iphone 5, i will be using the hdmi connection option, i am planning on getting a lightning extention cable to chop up and alltach to the factory USB once my bypass comes in, i will revisit, everything on hold for now.....
