i actually don't, lol. lived in oklahoma for four years and met lots of people from the midwest, south, east coast and for the most part they were very pleasant and friendly. i was shocked to find that the whole southern hospitality was extended to me as well, in spite of my yellow skin. my bad experiences were mostly just high school.

that's what they all say, more people would have died. regardless, it is an atrocity. hiroshima was a purely civilian target. 200,000 people died a horrible, painful death and a lot of them were women and children. nagasaki was the same with another 70,000. it was considered a war crime even then but back in those days both sides committed war crimes without thinking twice about it. today you accidently bomb 1 civilian and you have to internationally apologize for it. food for thought.

There are different Opinions whether or not the use of nuclear Weopens was necessary. However, the Bombs were used on mainly civilian targets. Thats the main Problem in my opinion. A military Target would have been sufficient to demonstrate the Power. And force Japan to surrender.

But i´m judging this by todays Standards. Back then both Sides commited terrible war crimes which should not be forgotten, otherwise terrible Things like that might happen again.

Just my opinion

I don't know about that....

But the general point still stands.

150,000 civilians died in the invasion of Okinawa out of a population of ~500,000. That's 30%, much of which was mass suicide and infanticide encouraged/caused by Japanese Army propaganda that the American barbarians were going to rape and murder all the women and children. The same percentage applied to the overall population of Japan would mean 22,000,000 civilians dead. Then there's the fact that Japanese civilians were being conscripted into "volunteer" militias to defend against invasion with 28,000,000 "combat capable" men and women. Of course, Japan couldn't produce that many guns, so most were armed with bamboo spears.

So yeah, more people would have died, a lot more.

regardless, it is an atrocity. the ends never justify the means. they could have nuked baghdad and possibly less civilians would have died in the iraq war compared to what actually happened but that wouldn't make it right.
