in high school in south oc i got told that if i want to continue living in america i should stop speaking languages aside from english and stop eating foods of my culture and being proud of it by an irish-american who had "dropped the irish part in favor of being american." also had people in class debate that the japanese concentration camps in the US was a good thing and the a-bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki was a good thing. yes, there were a lot of asians in the school, although the asians weren't the ones saying such things. all left lasting impressions on me, but hey people say dumb things in high school.

Damn man, living in Texas I get the same thing, but it's because I'm Muslim... Thankfully though it's died down a lot compared to 10 years ago...

I get a lot of racism when I leave the OC.

I went to Chandlar, Arizona to visit my family there and I was carded everywhere I went. I was also told to go back to my country. Occasionally I get the "C" word when I'm just walking around. :l

Seriously Giccin? I haven't gotten that in a while. I think this country hasn't exactly warmed up to Asians yet but I haven't seen blatant racist insults for a long time.

Racism is always around... We just happen to be in a place were we've finally be somewhat accepted. Lol

Go into some other states and EVERYONE will stare.

I've been in Kansas for a month now and some places I walk into are either all Black or all White or a mix while I'm the only Asian. People may look at me with curiosity... but awkwardness feeds awkwardness so I have to play it off like it's nothing. People of different races seem to get along fine though so I don't think there's racism. They also seem indifferent in regards to status. If you greet people then they'll acknowledge you back... just don't give them that cold Asian stare (which happens unintentionally if you have squinty eyes lol).

Of course I say Hi back with a smile, but I'm small. I get called a child quite often. Lol

But I hear ya on looking young... I still get carded sometimes and don't ever want that to stop.

I don't really know what to say about this thread. Surprised to say the least.

I'm thoroughly "American," been here forever. That aside I believe my major family influences are Irish, German, and even Scottish. I have a bit of Cherokee and Choctaw so I'm in the family too, so to say.

I want to crack jokes really badly right now.

...but all joking aside, I'm rather shocked and appualed by some of the blatent biggotry that has been shared.

I don't see the a-bomb comments as racist things (unless there is part of the discussion left off) but it was a HORRIBLE means to a war. Can you imagine how many more lives would have been lost if the full US force invaded Japan?
