I doubt it will happen simply because EcuTek is marketed to tuners NOT to vehicle owners. I still get survey invites from when i was a "master tuner". The most recent one, I went on and on about how they needed to offer some level of end user tuning if they want to stay relevant on any platform for more than the first 12 months.

I refused to buy ecutek because i can't stand the business model. I also have enough tuning knowledge to tune my own cars so I put my money into BRZedit personal. Now there is an even more open option in the openflash tablet.

We are the consumers, our money sways the market. If we refuse to spend money on solutions we do not like, ask for solutions we do like, and buy said solution when it appears.. the market will change.... eventually

I agree. I just wish I wasn't already so heavily invested in EcuTek.

they can't, the idea completely breaks their business model. people pay $10k to get on 'the list', if they offer end user tuning 'the list' suddenly becomes anyone who knows how to tune your car for you. they sell (often first-to-market) exclusivity and customer lock-in to tuners.

Correct. A year ago I tried to explain to people that there'd be other options, but was mocked by that lovely Visconti chap and then set upon by some of his adoring fans.

With brzEdit, Openflash and Hydra, there is now a solution for everyone.

This thread should be comparing those options, because EcuWreck is now as dead as the car-b-que, roaming the interweb like a zombie looking for the next batch of suckers.

Fortunately they didn't have several years of free reign like they did in the WRX community. Maybe for the next major platform they'll try to kinda do what people want.

Well I've only had my frs for 2 months and am still catching up on the past year's developements. I initially thought Ecutek was a full obd2 style tuning tool with end user capability. Like kpro for Hondas. Sadly, I was completely wrong and am extremely disappointed at what Ecutek is all about. Excited for nothing lol.

Maple syrup ended up sour...

Like I said, 95% of people of any make and model of car don't want to do their own tuning, and most likely 90% of those people shouldn't be doing their own tuning. Look how successful the Accessport is on various platforms, people don't really do any user tuning on those cars. Even the cars tuned via Ecuflash with Subaru/Evo are mainly done by tuners and not end users.

If I buy an Ecutek cable and license for $550 and end up paying a tuner $200 for a custom tune it isn't much different than paying $500 for an Openflash Tablet and paying the same $200 for a custom tune. I used to tune my WRX with a Utec and had a Hydra on my Impreza race car but I just don't care to anymore, things are way more complicated these days with VVTi, etc.

I'm glad there are tuning solutions now for those who want to tune the cars themselves. Ecutek tries to differentiate themselves with their features like holding 4 maps, launch control, speed-density, etc. I love the map switching functionality without having to load another map onto the ECU via a box or my laptop.

I understand your point, but the AccessPort and BRZEdit are not much different. Maps can be locked to devices or licenses if done by a tuner, you don't own the tune. It's not like Ecutek are the only people doing that. I'm all for open tuning but its not all that common.

Companies like Banks sell 10x as many flash boxes than all the import companies put together, the people who buy those have no intention on self tuning their vehicles.

...just letting out how I feel about Ecutek now that I know what kind of horseshit it is.

Do you want a cookie to feel better?

I need the stock ECU for legality reasons. Just hoping somebody can get a really great tuning solution utilizing the stock ecu while being able to configure all paramters. Like Kpro for Honda...
