There is no way I would run someone else's "open source" map anyways. Perhaps this is big news to someone hoping to supply "open source" tunes to customers, but it doesn't concern me.

The Big news is that you can use any tuning platform you want that has open definitions. The base maps are going to be all most people will want or need. But, this is opening up the platform like it has not been to date.

BTW, i was one of the beta testers

Damn you. I wish I was one of the beta testers. I would love to give getting my Full Blown turbo car tuned myself a shot.

What I love about this tool is that:
  • I can use any tuning software i want (so can your prefered tuner)
  • I don't need to keep my laptop in the car
  • Powered off the OBDII port so no batteries to worry about ever, just put it in the glovebox and go
  • It will handle the datalogging and display (you can also download the data logs to your computer
  • You can plug it in at a track day and log away (not so easy with a laptop)

Also, a LOT of time has been spent and is still being spent mapping "this" car so the base maps are going to be VERY good, but i already said that so.....

When are we going to get some DIY posts from you about using it like you did for BRZedit? I would like one on the MAF scaling and injector scaling. How many other beta testers were there? Did any of them have turbo kits and larger injectors? I would like more information on the datalogging as well. Sure wish there was live map access datalogging.

All the tuning posts I have done still apply, the only difference is the tool you use to edit and flash. Your editing the same tables, just with a different editor.

I'll let @Rombinhood@OpenFlash comment on the other testers and some of the features that are still in development.

i agree that this is a lot less exciting than it was before they mentioned that tuners still have the option to screw you (lock the map), but it's a huge step in the right direction. if we're lucky, we might end up with a real tuning community with information sharing and all that good stuff.

this is not 'open' in any way, at least not to the end user all the time. it is, though, a great step away from the antiquated licensing and 'ip protection' schemes of the existing offerings.

it doesn't fix the problem as i'd originally hoped, it just makes the problem optional lol.

What it does do is give you a way to tune a step cheaper than the current options. And despite the misleading name for the product, Rombinhood seems to be very open ABOUT the thing. And, of course, the non-trivial issue of owning your tune.

I ordered one even though I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it. I autox in stock class.

you're entire life is consumed by the use of open source software. you do it constantly, probably without even knowing it. the oems use open source software to create your car in the first place. there's nothing magical about buying an ecutek license that makes you somehow more capable than any other intelligent person with a desire to understand something.

all the best things are built by passionate, organized amateurs. google 'the internet'.

If it makes you feel better, we have decided not to support map encryption . It's just not philosophically congruent with the nature of our product.

Nothing would make us happier than seeing actual tuning discussion on the forum. I know that we have a lot of tuning tech that we will be posting in the upcoming few days.

Thanks for providing another option for our platform! If I didn't already go FI, I would be buying this now.
