The PITL event was good fun. I'm burn to a crisp though. I was the last co-driver on the white FR-S with the orange graphics on it. We ran Conti ExtremeContact DR's (full slick) which we knew would be a problem from the get go. They never got heat in them and were shuffling up front under the narrow wheel. If I'd had my car we would have broken into the 59's and probably the 58's sooner in the day. Best we managed was a 60.046 in the last run with a couple of mistakes here and there. Solid driving by all the FR-S guys. @UMB FR-S, nice driving! Tires on this car make the world of difference. Brakes too...

Our STX classes and prep is lagging behind those of the states.
STX means: headers bushing upgrades all around springs , ie coilovers engine management this could easily be a 4-6k worth of upgrades and shop time for dial in it's quite a bit more prep than stock

Plus, many of those mods are more wants than needs. I only have coilovers, wheels and tires, and a proper alignment and I'm doing just fine in STX with that. CHolm is the same as me and he's not far off the pace in STX either, especially since this is his first real season piloting a car in autox. Bushings are really more of a want thing as their true value is in the eye of the beholder and the rest are power mods which will really depend on the type of courses you run. Tight, technical courses will never require more power than stock to be competitive. Building for a class doesn't mean you have to buy everything. It means you have to spend strategically. Is the value of that part going to net you more than another part/mod? If not, then don't bother. For me, headers and bushings are that over valued part in STX. At least in Canada anyways. If you plan to be competitive in the USA, you'll need a much bigger budget.

dude..
first you say: STX doesn't require a lot of prep then you say: Any class with mods will cost you more than stock. That's a given.

I managed a 60.3x and I'm on "cheater" tires (225 Rivals), the rest of my car is stock. Steve, my codriver got a 60.0x. On my 3rd year of autocross, but first year in the BRZ...Steve has been doing it for a lot longer than I have. Just so you have something to compare your times against... I found that learning how to drive on crappy tires makes you drive much better when you switch to good tires. |

Definitely nice driving. I found myself braking too much at the end of the slalom and cross straight, which held me at 61.3.
Well done! |

Note that coilovers and massive wheels/tires are not really needed to be uber competitive. You can play with the big boys with just a basic alignment setup and some sticky tires. Both can be had for under $1000.
