Now you're just saying that no TC is hazardous just because YOU don't trust yourself as a driver.

And try to argue with my dad, who didn't let me buy a 240SX because it didn't have air bags
I am comfortable buying a car without VSC/TC because I grew up driving RWD sports cars and learned the hard way.

I am not the only one who drives my vehicles I have a wife too. She loves to drive the BRZ, but I would not trust her without the nannies turned on since this is only the second RWD car she has driven on a regular basis. I also live where we get lots of rain, snow, and ice, and I have experienced numerous instances where VSC kicked in on our Honda Odyssey and kept us from going into the ditch or another car.

Like I said, I believe in the technology and know that it works. You don't see to. To each his own.

Even though I was not going to contribute to this thread any more, I think it is worth mentioning that there is a big difference between Traction Control and Vehicle Stability Control.

Honestly, I am not sure why we are even still arguing. We are clearly at a moral standstill here. I do plenty of stuff on the road that could be deemed "unsafe" by almost anyone. You guys don't see the benefit of the VSC as a back-up system to already honed driving skills and habits for daily commuting.

I know that I am not as focus droning down the highway for 30 minutes every day as I am when I am on the track so I think the VSC is a good and easy back-up for me to just leave on for that one in a million chance that it saves me or my wife in the seat next to me from serious injury or death.
I don't see it as arguing... its a public forum in which we can express our opinions and have banter/conversation. If there was no "arguing" then things would be pretty one sided. As long as it doesn't get to name-calling or insults, a good debate is constructive and a good exercise for the mind.

I personally switch my car to an aggressive ECUTEK map and disable the traction control/VSC when I get in(with exception for snow/rain). I also use my seatbelt because it doesn't cock-block me when I am mid corner upsetting the balance of the car. We can debate back and forth as to who is correct (Hint: there is no right answer), and thats what makes an internet forum such a great place

It all falls apart when someone says "You are an idiot for having that opinion". It is no longer a debate at that point.... it is then a pissing contest

I feel like this is akin to asking someone if they are an ass/boob man. Two different sides, two different opinions, but everyone thinks that they picked the right choice and will debate to the death lol

There's an undercurrent in this thread I really don't like, people playing out their "boy racer fantasies" on public roads. I don't care if you have the TC on or off that's your decision to make. Just don't make me, my family, or my friends take the same risk you've decided to take when you screw around on public roads. There's a place for that...it's called The Track! By the way it's whole lot more fun there anyway.

I'd like to explore this more, because I'm not sure everyone is talking about the same thing, because there is a lot of dismissive opinions being thrown around and there has got to be some common truth we can agree upon here other than agreeing to disagree.

@Luis_GT, when you turn off the driving-assist systems, by which method do you do so?

This is exactly what I'm trying to nail down! So let's also be clear about the input you're talking about.

There is the "Sport" button which allows for higher revving and more aggressive shift points. "Use sport mode for sporty driving or when driving in mountainous regions with lots of curves" according to the BRZ manual.

There is the "VSC Sport" button, which I believe you are referencing above. The manual says "Control characteristics such as the Vehicle stability control (VSC) and TRAC are adjusted to afford maneuverability closer to what a driver may have imagined, while a sense of security is retained." So to answer your question, I interpret that as Traction Control isn't completely gone, just adjusted to allow more freedom but still keeping the car pointed in the right direction (as the skidpad video illustrates).

Going further, the manual offers "To turn the TRAC and Vehicle stability control (VSC) systems off, press and hold [Traction Control button] for more than 3 seconds while the vehicle is stopped." This is what Luis_GT does, so now the driver is in complete control of the power to the wheels. The manual warns: "Be especially careful and drive at a speed appropriate to the road conditions. As these are the systems to ensure vehicle stability and driving force, do not turn the TRAC/Vehicle stability control (VSC) systems off unless necessary."

Lastly, there is the pedal dance, which disables further brake assists (but ABS remains on). Here is the full list of "Driving assist systems" from the manual:

ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
Helps to prevent wheel lock when the brakes are applied suddenly, or if
the brakes are applied while driving on a slippery road surface
Brake assist
Generates an increased level of braking force after the brake pedal is
depressed when the system detects a panic stop situation
Vehicle stability control (VSC)
Helps the driver to control skidding when swerving suddenly or turning
on slippery road surfaces
TRAC (Traction Control)
Helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spin-
ning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads
Electric power steering
Employs an electric motor to reduce the amount of effort needed to turn the steering wheel

Pedal dance = 3 Sec trac off + Brake assist off for proper trail braking.

Sports button is only for A/T cars.
