Needless to say, it's in the shop now and I'm rocking a loaner Outback.
The buzzing noise with The car off is the fuel pump and the fuel system doing maintenance to the Fuel evaporation system. It occurs about five hours after you stop the car. Really weird, but it's normal and they all do it.

Ah, good to know. I just happened to go off when I walked by the car this time. It was like it was growling at me.

My frs has developed what i think is this same problem just over the last week. The rattle happens at ~5k+ RPM when in gear. Sounds similar to how it sounds when you stick your finger in a fan.

Im at toyota right now having them look at it.... they tried to tell me it was the DI kicking in (lol). I said to them, ok, why did it only start in the last week? Then i took a mechanic for a ride and hes like ooooohhh theres the sound. So we'll see what they say now.

For USDM cars, the underbody panels need some extra washers on some of the bolts because we're missing the underbody panels that go over the sides. The bolts were designed to hold both center and side panels overlapped, but without the side panels in place, you end up with a gap. If memory serves correctly, there were about 4 bolts that I had to do this to.

I'm not saying that this is definitely the cause of the noise, but it helped in my situation.

^ same thing here. Started experiencing this after flashing a base EcuTek stg 1 tune, probably unrelated but a coincidence nonetheless..

Almost the same here. My underbody panels rattled as well. A bolt had worked its way loose. It was found and fixed. Noise didn't come back since.

I've been getting a loud noise and rattle on a few occasions too, but only when I'm in reverse. Happened since I got the Nameless overpipe/downpipe installed. Anyone know what it might be?

Again, this only happens when the engine is under heavy load. It doesn't happen during normal driving/acceleration.

Any idea what might be causing this?

My first thought is that it might have something to do with the port injectors activating around these RMP's, or maybe it's just a vibration in the noise generator. I haven't done the noise generator delete yet, but I'll see if that helps.
I have same issue.. Its around 6k rpm.. And i was scared like hell when it happen first time..

Its not happening everytime, so its very hard to reproduce.. Anyway, even I show it to subaru mechanic, they didnt find anything

They were only surprised that I drive it so hard 5-7k rpm

It sounds like there are at least two plausible suggestions for the cause and solution of this noise... I'm going to look into them both as I've noticed the same when pulling around 5k...
