It's my brother's car. I have an 09 WRX but get on here sometimes. I've worked on 2 BRZs though. The rack pieces are in the tow hook holes. Super solid.

I wonder if you could throw a kayak or two on top if you had the Yakima bars?

Yakima makes the clips for their Q-Towers for the BRZ. You can run whatever setup you want that they offer within the weight restrictions. I won't put a roof rack on a car again unless there are rails due to the silicone pads which gum up the finish. PITA! I have used the rods in the tow hook ports for 8 months now and it works really well. If you use the locks on the system it locks to the car. How does the sea sucker not dent the roof when you hit a bump?

Not sure, but it maybe a little iffy. The contour of the roof and the way the bars mount cause span between the bars to be very short. I actually had to a little bit more research to find the right cargo box that could mount at a short enough span. I think you might me able to mount a short kayak no problem.

Yeah, had the same problem. Solution: clear vinyl strips where the mounts contact. I've used the Lamin-x rack guard http://www.lamin-x.com/Roof-Rack-Pai...ion-p/rr-8.htm

Did you make or buy these?

You have to have them made. About $140 or so then buy a rack to fit.

Current state of FT86 bike racks, AFAIK:

kask2_6.0's Trailer Hitch

+ holds up to 4 bikes (depending on rack purchased)
+ stable
+ if you wire for lights, can be used with small trailer too
+ only ~10 pounds added, and all down low (not counting the rack itself)
+ won't scuff paint anywhere
+ easy to remove bike rack
- expensive
- no warranty (technically not rated and "offroad use only" so if something goes wrong, you're on your own)
- possible clearance issues on such a low car
- more work to install (disassemble bumper, trim flange)
UHaul Trailer Hitch

+ holds up to 4 bikes (depending on rack purchased)
+ stable
+ if you wire for lights, can be used with small trailer too
+ won't scuff paint anywhere
+ easy to remove bike rack
- expensive
- weight unknown
- installation process unknown
- no one at ft86club has one yet (AFAIK)
- possible clearance issues on such a low car
Roof rack

+ holds up to 2 bikes
+ stable
+ out of the way
+ can use cross bars to carry other things
- expensive
- increases drag (even without bikes)
- adds weight on top
- without adding vinyl sheets, may scuff paint a bit
Tow hook bars

+ stable
+ won't scuff paint anywhere
+ (presumably) reasonable price
- not available yet (unless DIY)
- only holds 1 bike
- possibly partially in way of trunk when loaded (doesn't swing down like a class 1 rack)
Sea Sucker

+ won't scuff paint
+ out of the way
+ easy to remove and use on different vehicles
+ holds up to 2 bikes (if you buy a second one)
- expensive
- increases drag (when bikes are on it)
- unsure about using this on FT86's thin glass
- need to remove front wheel (also may need to do this with some other options, depending on rack purchased)
Strap mounted trunk rack

+ cheap
+ easy to remove and use on different vehicles
+ folds for storage
+ holds up to 4 bikes (depending on rack purchased)
- less stable
- may scuff paint
- in way of trunk
Inside trunk

+ free
+ secure
- only fits 1 bike
- must fold down rear seat and use trunk space
- need to remove front wheel (also may need to do this with some other options, depending on rack purchased)
- may scuff interior and/or get dirt/water/mud inside
- may be difficult to fit some bikes
I have kask2_6.0's trailer hitch (but haven't installed it yet).

A couple of the more intriguing strap racks I've seen are the Allen MT1 ([ame="http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Sports-Compact-Folding-1-Bike/dp/B004C94X12"]$26[/ame]) and MT2 ( [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Sports-Compact-Folding-2-Bike/dp/B004C966JE"]$43[/ame]). Don't seem very stable, but they're only 6-7 pounds, tiny, and come with a carry bag.

I too am very interested to find out if the hitch for the Scion FR-S will fit the BRZ. Does anyone have any idea if it will work?
