Hopefully this will demystify the tuning process as it is quite simple on the FA20 application. Having access to the tables and being able to share maps with others should move things along quickly to the point were no one is at the mercy of their tune supplier. At $500 for a tune with handheld device, we predict some resistance from existing Ecutek dealers. But if history repeats itself, they will give in as they have in other platforms where open source tuning was released (Mitsu and Subaru).

Can I flash only one car or can I use it on multiple cars? How about taking it from and FR-S to a 135i and back again?

Hate to be that guy, but you guys want to get the forum sponsorship thing straightened out really soon. I'd hate to see this thread get shut down because of it.

Great product.

It's already taken care of last night. Just waiting for our account status to be updated. We were vendors when we first started this thread a whole back. But let it lapse during the development process since we really didn't have much to say. We are happy to be back though

Only one car per Tablet. But it can be uninstalled and then installed on another car of the same type. To be converted over to BMW, it would have to come back to us to be reprogrammed.

So for those of us coming from evo/turbo Subaru scene this will be very similar to the Cobb AP but with open maps.

The device still "marries" the ecu but I can share the tune provided they have some way to flash

Converting from a FA20 OpenFlash Tablet to an N54 (BMW) OpenFast Tablet will not cost anything. Going the other way around (N54 -> FA20) will cost $100 since their list prices are $495 and $395 respectively.

Is Tactrix going out of business?

I think this is over-priced because it's artificially limited. If it worked on both BMWs and FR-Ss and they kept adding more cars to support, even if I had to pay another $100 per model supported, I'd buy one in a second. Instead, it's the lock-in system. Not as crippled as ECUTek or Cobb, but still crippled.

For what it's worth, after buying one, I'd drive over to Shiv and have him tune the car. Heck, I emailed them 6 months ago, asking about their tuning.

Frankly, if they dropped these artificial limitations and sold it for 600 with support for both cars and no lock-down, they'd crush the living shit out of EcuTEK and BRZEdit, making more money in the end and building a happier community.

For something as important as the ECU, I'd rather have a device that is programmed to handle my car only. The last thing I'd want is a jack-of-all-trades system that screws up my car even though it saved someone a few bucks compared to needing two units.

From a development standpoint, I would imagine building a unit that handles different ECUs and still manage to be feature packed in a limited amount of memory to be a nightmare. Not only would there be tons more QA needed (since this deals with multiple types of ECUs), but the time it would take (since it is a small development team I'm assuming) to test could delay the product who knows how long.

Based on the tuning options available, their model is as good as it is going to get for a little while. Yes, if RomRaider could handle our vehicles, you could cheap out and go the Tactrix route. For the retail price of EcuTek alone, you could basically buy two of these. I'd just count that as a win compared to buying EcuTek for the FR-S and their tablet for the BMW. You can't have your cake and eat it too

I own a tactrix cable, I went with the open source tuning on my wrx.

And to be honest I'd go the cobb route if I could do it over.

Tuning and logging never worked right ( if you weren't running xp) there was no support and no resale value. No sharing of tunes. For someone good with programming and willing to tune their own car it was awesome, but the other 90% don't want the headache.

Yeah, I ain't tryin'a have all that. It doesn't seem like this tablet system will be that way though, plus you can always have it professionally tuned, which is what I plan to do.
