i know with 220ish whp my fr-s wasn't very fast. v6 minivan fast, but not sports car fast. now with 260 (mustang dyno) whp, it's starting to pick up a bit. it's at least entertaining on our boring florida roads now. ymmv. if i lived back home in the mountains i'd probably be happier with less power. down here on 'the grid', power is your only available form of entertainment when daily driving. |

Stage 2 2011 WRX to the BRZ. Down quite a few ponies but I haven't missed it yet. Whether or not that will change when times moves forward, who knows.
With just how much fun this thing is to drive, I can't see it being an issue though. And the possiblity later in the car's life to add forced induction, I could see myself staying with this car for a long while. I was seriously reluctant to trade up when I had the WRX, but for future buyers, DO IT, you won't regret it! |

you're probably right... living in florida there isn't much need for a canyon carver. if i thought i'd be here more than a year i wouldn't have bought an fr-s.

By conventional auto-nut thinking, you're going in the wrong direction here! What led to the switch from the Z06 to the 370Z? Interested as I am torn between a few options at the moment including the new C7 Z51.

Interesting thread seeing the vehicles people have swapped out of for the 86.
86 was on my shopping list too, but ultimately I went with something else because I wanted more seats/cargo space. I went from 426/420 in a 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS to 411/434 in a 2010 6.2L SVT Raptor to 197/202 in a 2014 Fiesta ST... So taking a similar plunge in power for hopefully a similar gain in handling/fun. And going to save massively on fuel expenses. I haven't taken delivery of the ST yet, but have test-driven the '14 Titanium Fiesta and the '13 Focus ST's prior to ordering the FiST. Expecting delivery late October, although the ST's have already started landing... My first dealership screwed me over so I had to re-order elsewhere recently.

Previous DD and still own was a Yaris hatch with TRD suspension (I've owned powerful cars when I was younger), the yaris handles like on rails with the trd susp. but only had a max 100ft-lbs torque around 4krpm.
So when I first got my FRS I was used to climbing the many hills around here at 4krpm, thought man is this a $10k upgrade over the Yaris? Seeing dynos posted here which showed the FRS had the same 100ft-lbs of torque at 4krpm a light bulb went off, this was before the torque dip was really explained. Started keeping the FRS over 5k rpm and she's got more than enough torque/horsepower. daily drivers don't need to be 12 senond cars. but looking forward to a tune + headers that really get rid of the torque dip or a reliable <$4k super charger kit.

If you can make the C7 work, you'd be crazy to pass it up. I have a C6 (427 Vert) in the garage next to the FRS. It's a blast to drive in the right conditions but much more often than not I prefer the FRS. Taking out the Vette feels more like dressing up to go on a date where the FRS is like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans and hanging with friends. My Vette also comes with the limited production run curse that keeps you looking at the odometer as if accumulating miles were a sin. Driving a C6 is much more work as well, clutch is much more stiff although it shifts butter smooth and the long hood makes you feel slightly disconnected from the road ( not as bad as the 370 though which I think has the worst driver positioning of any sports car I have driven) The C7 has supposedly resolved those flaws and has become a true drivers car without the C6 quirks.

I sold my 2012 Boss 302 for the FRS , had it on my friends dyno the first week of ownership (400whp). I chose the FRS for better gas mileage for my 40 mile daily commute and for the cheaper track day consumable cost. I will admit that I miss the power.

It surprises me the number of people who live in flat straight road areas who buy these cars. If I still lived in the flat Midwest I probably would have bought a infinity coupe. Although the twins are sort of a GT/sports car hybrid. Wikipedia actually classifies them as a Grand tourer, and if it were 1985 it would definitely be a considered GT car. I guess that's part of their charm is that they can keep up with a Miata thru twisty hills yet they are a decent cruiser on straight roads.
