I typically drive 10-15 over in the left lane of the parkway/turnpike which is common practice around here. If I am behind someone slower that is not passing, I give them ~10 seconds to move over before I pass them on the right. When not passing and not in traffic I am in the center lane.
NJ recently passed a bill raising the fine for people who camp in the left lane. Can't wait for it to start being enforced more. I go insane when traffic is caused by a bunch of people driving side by side at 60mph on the GSP. |

I remember when FB first started, and it was just college kids making funny/stupid groups to join. One of my buddies started a group called "People against slow drivers in the left lane that need to move the fuck over." That group grew VERY quickly, LOL.

1-4) No, I try not to be an asshole.
5) It would be nice but I'm not crying a river about it, leaves plenty of room in the right lane for passing. Edit: I realized that I am in fact, sometimes an asshole, but the important thing is that I try not to be. |

I do not hold up traffic. If someone behind me feels the need for speed I get out of their way asap. I don't like to be someones speed trap. 2,3, & 4 can be considered "aggressive driving" in the states I frequent so I don't do any of those. (our stock horn is embarrassing anyway). I personally consider them all rude but I also consider hogging the passing lane rude too I just go around or suck it up. (MD drivers like to pass on the right and most don't know where their turn signal switch is located) ![]() Long ago in a much faster car I had a very heavy foot. I took a defensive driving course to drop some points primitively and actually walked away with some knowledge. I was surprised at how aggressive I naturally drove and toned it down quite a bit. We can all get squirrelly some times but I always seem to get caught when I do (cough...last video I posted...) so I just keep my windows up and commentary any annoyances. |

2) I flash the highbeams if necessary. That only happens if the person in front of me is hogging the lane or not driving fast enough to be in that lane in the first place. ~ And no, I don't consider it rude, even if someone was to do that to me. 3) NO 4) No, it seems pointless and could cause an accident. 5) Here in Mass, they have signs now to remind others to move over from the left lane to allow others who are driving faster to pass them.

1. Do you ever hold up traffic in the left lane?
-No 2. Do you flash to pass? -no 2.5. Do you consider this rude? -yes 3. Do you honk to pass? -no 3.5. Do you consider this rude? -yes 4. Do you do small swerves to get the driver attention to let you pass? Do you consider this action rude? -no 5. Do you think this rule should be made more apparent and/or enforced? -no And here's where the problem lies: people going "slow" in the left lane are probably doing 65 mph, aka the speed limit. If one were inclined to go faster, there's no obligation on the 65 mph driver to do accommodate you. If they do not move over out of the kindness of their heart, it's my responsibility to safely navigate around them. If it means waiting till there's an opening, so be it. However, I have seen plenty of people wedge themselves in gaps racing drivers would rarely take. My personal rule of thumb is 1 car length behind the passed car, 1 car length ahead of the lane-over car. Situational awareness is everything. Knowing what cars are going what speed in what lanes and making judgements based on that. If you can't do that well enough, than sit behind the slow car until a football field opens up. Word of caution, of course, is if you're darting between lanes doing 20 over the limit, odds are you're going to attract friendly law enforcement attention. I got 3 speeding tickets from 2001-2003 but zero in the past 10 years. I don't drive slower, I drive smarter.

The left lane (on a highway) is for passing. There is no such thing as a "fast lane". I use the left lane to pass only, It's pretty disappointing to see other car/driving enthusiasts that don't get that.
Someone in Florida can confirm, but I believed they passed a law recently that people driving in the left lane that fails to move over for faster traffic can be ticketed. (they passed the law because of all of the road rage incidents). Oh.. and in TX and in other states too apparently... from the TX DOT website Quote:
