Do you hold up traffic in the left lane?

I can say I have never been the cause of holding up traffic in the left lane, soon as someone want to pass and I can move over I will. I can't imagine driving 8-15 under the speed limit for 20 or so miles holding up traffic. I also cannot stand those that do. I can usually stand when others that due until I notice there is someone riding my tail because the guy holding me up. It is one thing I wish they would start enforcing/writing tickets for.

Guess I'm just the asshole though.

1. Do you ever hold up traffic in the left lane?

2. Do you flash to pass?
2.5. Do you consider this rude?

3. Do you honk to pass?
3.5. Do you consider this rude?

4. Do you do small swerves to get the driver attention to let you pass? Do you consider this action rude?

5. Do you think this rule should be made more apparent and/or enforced?

Discuss.

I'm never really in the left lane long enough for this to affect me. If it does happen I'm 3 cars behind and can't honk effectively. Only time I'm in the left lane is for turning into my neighborhood. Feels more comfortable to be in the right.

I'll flash a few times and if they don't move I'll undertake them. The honking and swerving are rude. Swerving is dangerous too so don't condone that at all on the highway. Finally, I believe it is equally rude of the moron to not be paying attention to what they are doing and not following the rules of the road.

1. no. unless i'm passing i stay off it (unless it's gridlock)
2. no. people in America take it as the biggest offense to their (wo)manhood
2.5. no
3. no, see #2
3.5. yes
4. no, it's rude and dangerous
5. left lane should be passing ONLY. slow traffic stay right. enforce these two rules, and we shall all motor happier

I am not sure what is going on in people's head when they are professionally blocking the passing lane. I was taught to drive by three different excellent drivers in my family and they mad it VERY clear that you only use the left to pass. Not to cruise. Even though it irritates the shit out of me when people do so. I stay away from anything dangerous or something that could irritate the wrong person. I will just pass them in the other lane and some get it. The driver that stays in the left lane. Well, there is no hope for them. And yes they should be writing tickets for professional blocking.

1. If I see that someone behind me wants to pass, I speed up until I can move over to let that person go. normally I keep on right lane and use left only to pass.

2. I do that and I don't consider that rude. If anyone does that to me, shame on me not on the person who is behind me stuck.

3. I would do that only if I would be stuck behind someone for like 10 mins. I consider that a last resort.

4. I try to avoid that, as it can be a bit dangerous.

5. three things should be made illegal and be penalized: 1. Driving on a left lane when right line is empty. 2. Driving on left line at the same speed as cars on the right lane. 3. Passing cars on the right side.

I grew up and learned how to drive in western Poland and three rules above are enforced by both police and other drivers. That allows for safer and faster highway travel. I feel like American highways are just chaotic and frustrating and police isn't doing anything about it.

If I'm already doing 20+ over the limit in left lane and passing people that are in the other lanes I don't move over for someone tail gating me.

When I find someone is going slower than I want to go in the left lane I go around.

Ain't nobody got time for flashing, honking, tailgating

I believe technically if you are passed by traffic on the right you are "impeding the flow of traffic". But this is probably up there with j walking lol

1 Only if I'm already passing someone
2 Yes depending on how much a give a crap that day
2.5 No. Move your asses out of the passing lane
3 No. At that point you might as well pass on the right because they don't know/care that you exist. (Yes, I know it's illegal but how long are you really going to sit there pissed off at the dbag in front of you?)
3.5 No but I do consider it foolish.
4 No. but I will move over and put myself where they can see me in their side view mirror. For many people the rear view mirror is nothing more than another vanity mirror.
5 HELL YEAH. Screw speeding tickets as a revenue generator. Think about how easy it would be for police to just drive around on the highway and pick off morons sitting in the left lane for no reason.

Whoever came up with the concept of the "fast lane" really did us a disservice.

1.) Not purposefully. I've gotten stuck in the left lane before because the right was packed and creeping along, and I'm not about to try a risky maneuver so the guy behind me can do 20+ over the limit. But no, I stick to the right if at all possible.

2.) Used to, not anymore. I don't really think it's rude, but most Americans don't get it, so I don't bother.

3.) No honking. I think that's kind of a **** thing, and generally keep honking reserved for emergencies.

4.) Hell no, that's stupid. All it takes is for something to be in the road in the middle of one of your swerves and, whoops, car balance was off a little bit during the left-right transition and you overcorrect, now you're off the road, hit a ditch, and just flipped three times. :P

5.) Yes, I think reserving the left lane for passing should be made more apparent. Do I think it deserves its own law? I imagine if it was easily enforceable that any agency would be up for the extra cash.

1. No

2. Yes
2.5 No (assuming it's the fault of the person directly in front of me)

3. No
3.5 It depends. If you just honk right away, it's rude. If the person in front of you is causing the blockage, and you've already flashed several times, then it's reasonable at that point to honk.

4. I'll swerve a little bit to the side to see what's past the car directly in front of me. It's not to get their attention, just to see what's ahead.

5. YES!!! It is much safer for everyone if fast drivers just go straight ahead in the left lane instead of swerving around slower cars in random lanes trying to get ahead.

2.5. No cus they should get the fuck outa my way on mountain roads when there's places to turn off
3. I rarely ever use my horn.
4. Yes only on mountain roads
5. It should be enforced, or ill just keep on cutting people off on purpose.

1. Do you ever hold up traffic in the left lane?
Absolutely not. If I'm speeding in the left lane, and someone flies up on me, I speed up and get out of their way asap. How do I know there's not a lady in the car giving birth to a baby who is choking on an insulin shot on their way to catch Grandma's last moments on her death bed? I don't.

One time I was in the left lane, the only person in the left lane, creeping past a long line of 18 wheelers. I was already past a few, but still had several more to pass before I could get in the right lane again. Suddenly there was a highway patrolman behind me with his lights on. Clearly he was in a hurry, because he didn't even exist a minute earlier. I dropped down to 4th and by the time I passed the last 18 wheeler, I was doing 105-110ish. I got the fuck out of his way, back into the right lane, and got on the brakes. He smiled and gave me a friendly wave as he sped off to do his job.

I try to live my life by these wise words:

"Don't be Сunt." - Joe Rogan

2. Do you flash to pass?
I've probably done this 5 to 10 times in my life. So... no, not usually.

2.5. Do you consider this rude?
Nope. Anyone who does is probably an inconsiderate prick that needs to get the fuck out of the way.

3. Do you honk to pass?
Nope. I've never used a horn while driving. I always forget that thing's there.

3.5. Do you consider this rude?
Nope.

4. Do you do small swerves to get the driver attention to let you pass? Do you consider this action rude?
No, but I will move over to the left (and stay there) so that I can stare them in the eyes in their side mirror. I do this 100% of the time. Not so much into the flashy honky stuff.

5. Do you think this rule should be made more apparent and/or enforced?
The fine should astronomical - ruin lives, tear apart families. But maybe I feel a little strongly about this...
