I agree. Even though this "dumb customer" has been in the auto industry working on cars for my entire life. The reason I brought it to the shop was two fold. One, I wanted Toni to see this in person as I was the first kit he has sold and has been installed. I didn't want any more of his customers to have the same problem and if the solution was something easy, he could then tell them what to do. The second reason I brought it there is because I knew for a fact that my install was correct but since they are a dealer, they have more credibility and pull with the vendors. Instead of calling and telling them my qualifications and certifications over the years, I let a certified shop handle that instead. Unfortunately, they gave the shop as much credit as they did me, the dumb customer.

I know Mishimoto is a reputable company and will remedy the situation. You have to give them an opportunity to make it right.

I can certainly understand your frustration though, it sounds to me like you installed it correctly and you made the right call taking it to the shop.

I'd uninstall it and wait for a replacement from them. It might take some time, but at least your car won't burn to the ground lol.

Sorry to hear your having issues with it, good luck with the fix!

Nick C.
I have read mixed reviews about the company..some love them and some hate them. I can only go by my own personal experience here and it hasn't been good. Like I said, if it was a dud product then I totally understand. Just make it right and send me a good one. Don't argue with the shop that sold it and discredit them in front of the customer. Don't be rude or condescending. Don't tell me to go drive my car until hot oil sprays over the hot engine and then take a picture of it afterwards. Everything that he could've done and said wrong, he did it. Now they can't even make it right if I do get someone better on the phone as they are completely out of stock with no ETA on more parts.

All of the times I pulled over with smoke bellowing out of from my hood in the last 3 days, I didn't once think "hey, this is a kodak moment" and snap a picture. I was more concerned about my safety and the safety of my car than to take a picture of a disgusting oily mess.

Maybe the awesome guys at @FT-86SpeedFactory will be so awesome to send me some parts

Let me ask you something..are the two plates that accompany the sandwich plate both black with the silver kit? The black kit I have included a silver sandwich plate and black spacer plate and black catch cup on top. The reason I ask is that the black finish has some texture to it and we were all a little curious if the wrinkle finish was enough to create a leak under pressure.

Thanks for the reply and no worries for thinking out loud.
Both black with our kit, as well.

The only thing I can add is that in the Full Blown instructions for their oil cooler they specifically state to use only high temp thread sealant paste and not teflon tape on the angle fittings that feed into the Mocal thermostatic piece. Banjo bolts really shouldn't need any sealant though.

Hi Chad, I apologize for the issues you have run into with this kit, and I want to personally make sure that you get helped and are 100% satisfied with both our products and our company.

We have had many customers install this kit onto their cars with no issues, and have been very happy with the results. Before we released this kit, we tested it on multiple cars in order to ensure safety, performance, and fitment, since we wanted to release the best possible product to our customers.

I would like you to contact me personally through email at tsylvester@mishimoto.com so that I can make sure that everything is resolved. I also encourage anyone else reading this to email me as well if they have any reservations about our products, our company, or our customer service, and I would be happy to help you out.

We stand behind our products and our customers, and we will fix this situation for you. I apologize again for the experience you had, and I will be more than happy to make sure you are taken care of.

Thanks,
Tyler Sylvester

@chadstyle shitty luck with the oil cooler. Looks like the vendor response will resolve the issue for you.

Off topic, have I seen you on TV somewhere...?

Never use teflon tape on anything automotive.

I like the really sticky brown brush-on gasket sealer or ARP thread sealant. I use one or the other on all pipe threads.

On flare fittings, don't use anything.

I have emailed him and I'm waiting on a reply. I don't know if he can come up with parts so we'll see. After the treatment I received today I don't know if I want anything from Mishimoto.

And maybe, maybe somewhere, once, in a far away land

So sorry to hear about your trouble with this oil cooler. I can't describe how I would be feeling if my entire engine got blasted with oil from a leak like that.

I admire your self control.

Engine?? My whole car!! Literally from front to back. We sprayed down the entire exhaust from header to tips. The whole belly pan. The driveshaft and tunnel and just about every part that you can think of. Twice. Filled up the engine bay many times. My car is literally spotless at all times including the engine bay so you have no idea how bummed I am.

I was on the fence on either Mishi or the Perrin, but your thread may have swayed me. Sorry about your experience, hopefully Mishi does right and resolves the issue. One thing I have heard is they have great customer service so to hear about that experience is weird, maybe that CSS should be demoted to another department, because clearly he/she has no business being on the phones. Anyways good luck bud and thanks as usual for a heads up.
