Intake tube vs Catless Midpipe...which to buy?

I have the funds now to get one of these items...they're priced pretty close (the intake tube is $135 and the midpipe is $175). I'm just looking for which would offer the best "bang for the buck". I'll probably pick up the other one early next year, but I'd rather do the best one now.

Thanks for any input, guys!

Also, sort of a side question that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but do either of these cause a CEL? I'm assuming the midpipe will because it will trip the second O2 sensor, but what about the intake tube? Is there an O2 sensor spacer that people have used with success? I had something similar to that on my MS3 and it worked fairly well...basically just removes the second O2 sensor from the direct exhaust stream by spacing it up (and out of the pipe) a little.

MS3 you say...fucking brownie...

Drop in filter and catless front pipe(test pipe in MSF land)= all win..no cels..no issues...no worries

$40 for filter and around $100 for an cheap/used midpipe..NCE about intake tube

Cool - yeah, I was not happy with the MS3 at all. Worst platform for modification I've ever owned. Absolutely terrible.

Thanks for the suggestion - I already have a Cosworth drop-in, so I guess I'll go with the pipe!

Was looking at this one:

Their site appears to be down now for some reason, but it's the Berk piece

If you have a stock catback or muffler you wont notice it at all. But if you really really really want this part as part of your build then get it atleast you'll have it now. Im running an invidia catless front pipe with an over pipe and muffler delete. No CEL and its been a couple thousand miles. As for the intake tube i really dont see a point in it just save for an actual intake system thatll get rid of all those resonators or whatever they are.

Front pipe for sure. The O2 sensors are around the primary cat (in the header) so replacing the front pipe won't effect the O2's at all.

Do you have a resonated midpipe and muffled axleback? If you don't it will sound very raspy with a catless, unresonated front pipe.

The axle-back is resonated (I had a resonator welded in place). I just ordered the pipe - thanks for the comments, everyone!

Make sure you get a tune for it or you may run rich and lose power.

See here for previous test results: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23901

The car lost power without tune adjustments. I have noticed that most customers who install the over & front pipe contact me with datalogs running extremely rich from their current tune and complaining of a loss of power.
YMMV

That's the plan for next year - if I notice a drop in power I'll probably take it off and wait until spring/summer when I get a tune. Thanks for the advice!

Have you considered saving your funds and just getting a drop in filter /cap ur sound pipe with the cigarette lighters cap. Then save up to get a combo pipe like nameless, it will provide a better bang for your buck then just getting the mid pipe.
