FT86 Ontario Mountain Biking Thread

To avoid further off-topic discussions on biking within various threads, I'm throwing this up to allow members who ride to post where and when they might be gathering to allow others in the area to join in if interested.

So, if your riding and want some company, post up the details here.

Any interest in riding at Glen Major/Walker Woods/Durham Forest this weekend? After this rain the sand should be much better than it was this weekend.

Good idea. I may be heading up to Blue Mountain mid September with some friends from work. I'll reply when the details are confirmed.

I'd be in but I have to go to a wedding Saturday and with my liver lacking the proper training, I'll probably need a day or two to recover.

Would this be for DH or XC?

I am glad to find this thread.
I carried my 21" 29er to a dealer and found that I couldn't fit the bike inside. This could be a deal breaker to get a fr-s. It is sort important because I like to go riding directly after work--currently I can carry the bike inside.
If you like driving your fr-s and riding your bike in the summer, do you have to own another car beside fr-s, or only ride on weekend withe a trunk bike carrier?
How do you handle winter?

My XC bike fits easily into my FRS with the front wheel off and the seat folded down. I can also get three pairs of skis, two boot bags and a pile of other ski gear into the car as well

I have my Outback for moving big things around. It's a great excuse sometimes, since I can only take one passenger (or two small ones) and limited trunk space.

Bah! You have to get creative. Don't ever let anyone tell you what can and cannot be done.

That's my setup. Works wonders. I'm moving to a hitch style though on the new FR-S. Not sure if I'm selling the old setup above yet or not though.

But in short, you can make something like this for fairly cheap. BTW, my bike is a 19" 29'er, to give you an idea.

Winter time is also a breeze. Put 4 good snows on and you'll have zero issues with it, especially if your smart about how you drive.

Thanks and nice work that_guy!
If I only ride on weekends, your setup, or even an off-shelve truck rack will work for me. But there are times I need to carry my bike to work and ride after (to avoid coming rain, to ride with the others), and I am not comfortable to leave it in parking lot.
Of course the compromised solution is to ride only on weekends.

Tough call. Can't ask a car/truck to do everything you want. There will always be a compromise.

You know you can get a bag, which looks like a BBQ cover, to go over your bike when it rains right? I just carry that around and if the weather goes south on me before my ride, the bike stays dry.

Security wise, you can cable lock or most bike racks come with some sort of theft prevention system. Again, compromise everywhere, but that's what you get when you want a sports car to be practical.

I have not been there before, but I'm assuming it's downhill. I only have a hard tail so I'll be going easy.
