It seems to me it is the ethanol in the gas. Because from what I found the Toyota version does not have this problem. And if the car was developed in an area that does not use ethanol in there gas, the problem would not surface until it got to the states. So instead of replacing the fuel pump with another OEM pump that work with ethanol free gas they need change the whole fuel system. It can't be the engine because we are close to the compression and bore&stroke as an S2000 and they didnt have this big of a problem.
Unless I'm completely wrong and talking out of my ass |

who wants to bet there will never be a fix for this because nobody has had a real failure..
imo, I think they failed testing in the US.. The test engineers either missed the chirping, or they knew and figured it was nothing worth noting.. or the supplier changed specs.. |

Toyota operates significant testing facilities in America, most auto manufacturers do because where's the best place to do long term high heat testing? How about the hottest place on the planet: Death Valley California with the only fuel commercially available being 91 octane E10 gas.
http://www.toyota.com/about/our_busi...d_development/ Saying Ethanol is the problem is like saying fast shifts are the problem for the DI seal failures. Design criteria is the "problem" and as @choi0706 says, until there's a failure there's no need to do anything, it's just a noise. Ethanol is a band aid in so many ways. |

You could try a high quality 2 stroke oil pref zero ash. It's designed for the job. Mineral oil might be better than synthetic, there are reasons it could burn more completely if you read up on it.
It's about 1:50 in a 2 stroke, 1:200 added to a HP direct injection diesel and 1:500 to 1:1000 for gasoline engine. That's what others have found by experimenting. There's heaps on this thread and you can google it to find out more. |

Toyota stuffed up with the HP pump and one component can't handle the higher friction that ethanol causes. It gets worse when it's hot because friction increases with heat. Why they haven't fixed it after well over a year is mindblowing, especially when you factor in all the pumps that have been replaced! |
