You do realise everytime you adjust height, you need a wheel alignment.

Decided against the Teins. Too many similar stories, even from people selling them.

Cusco has a local dealer (TRD NZ is also Cusco dealer ) But, they aren't rebuildable.
Fortune Auto 500 are rebuildable, but mixed opinions.
Also considering RCE Tarmac Zero's. I am in two minds about the fact they aren't damper adjustable, on the one hand, I like a set and forget and just adapt/get used to it approach. Also like that someone with for more knowledge than I has decided what is best. But, paying the same price for a non adjustable coilover compared to an adjustable one, is that a little near-sighted? Could argue that more $/quality has gone into the unit, seeing as there was $ saved from not making it adjustable. RCE Tarmac also have excellent warranty. Although one would argue useless on otherside of the world, but I would say that it says a lot about their confidence in the product.

Any thoughts on which of the three you'd go for?

Fortune Auto 500 are the cheapest of the three.
RCE Tarmac 0's work out to be about another $500 on top of them.
Cusco Zero - A about another $200 on top of the RCE's.
I'd say our results speak for themselves when we're using Teins and putting down solid results...

Anything under 2.5k or so, you get what you pay for. That Cusco damper you're considering is probably a rebranded Showa, just how the RCE is a rebranded KW.

You get what you pay for to a certain point. With Tein or even KW, Cusco, I'd say there is a premium on the brand notoriety. Somebody has to pay for all the marketing they do....

Koni or Bilstein shock coupled with some springs with decent rates are probably the best bang for buck, but to get them dialed in you'd have to spend time testing them, getting revalved/rebuilt at least twice... nobody got time for that.

So if Tein was made with the same quality but built in Taiwan, they're not good?

Just because something is made in Japan or the US doesn't make it better. See the first batch of Eibach R2s as an example.

There's only so many shock makers in the world, and this industry is a lot smaller than one wants to believe from a manufacturing perspective.

My advice, as a suspension snob on a budget, is to research and see which spring and damper combo works best and go with that. Much better than cheapo coilover systems with mismatched spring and damper rates. If you just want to "hella-slamm" your 86 then... Get a cheapo coilover kit.

What about the smaller diameter coilovers offer? I know that's one thing that's enticing me for coilovers as the fitment of certain sizes at the front is a little too close on the stock strut.

It just gives you more room between the fender and spring to fit tire

Different damper settings.

Finer resolution doesn't show due to scaling, unless we zoom in

What are you, some kinda hippy? What's with this metric Newtons shit? You got a 'Murican English version of this chart? ft./lbs. and in./s measurement?

What damper is this? Doesn't look like much of a range in the adjustment on the first chart, though it might be because of the measurement units used. aint nobody got time to do no conversions...

Short version:

0.01-0.05 = roll/input

0.05-0.10 = berms, curbs, etc.

0.30 = potholes, parking bricks, red blocks of death at Laguna Seca, etc.
