Biggest mistake in my car buying experience was buying an auto Z3. My wife didn't like the sporty feel so we didn't share the cars after buying it and I was stuck driving it for four years.

I am actually interested in the auto. I have never owned a car that can switch between automatic and manual before. Ya it wont have a clutch but you can still have fun.

I am going to test drive the auto for sure when it comes out!

Also, how much more do you think it will cost price wise? 2-3k more?

Automatic is typically a $1000 dollar option.

This car won't either its not switching between automatic and manual but auto and semi auto

I plan to test drive the auto as well since the reviews have sparked my curiosity tho the deposit for a manual won't change any time soon

My experience with BMW Steptronics:
I was on automatic 99.99% of the time.
Bottom line is that the car is an automatic. You will get lazy and won't shift manually because you don't have to. And when you do it you sometimes forget that you are in manual mode and forget to shift up or down and the engine will rev really high or shift for you. Soon you will just drive it like a regular automatic tranny car. Exception is when you take it to track or autocross. Yes, I tracked and autoXed the automatic Z3 in manual mode.

How did your step perform at the track and autox? My experience with the auto is similar for day to day. You will leave it in auto alot.

I do not feel like its a manual even if I use the paddles and go through the motions. There is a detachment to the way the engine responds and without a clutch it really does not feel like you are doing anything other than dictating shift points to the computer. However even that seems muted and buffered when the shifts are done since the computer does all the hard thinking and the trans is idiot proof. Hard to describe but I drive the step and my manual back to back often and that's the feeling I get.

On the otherhand, in DS mode you can get good performance without ever worrying about missing a shift or money shifting. You are most likely shifting faster with the auto and you can concentrate on keeping the car from crashing into cones and stuff. DS mode is actually a decent sporty shifting program. It can hold revs annoyingly though and still does not give you any real control.

It did well. I didn't participate in SCCA. I ran with P-car club in my area.
This is my only footage on the track. I have not been on PIR for 5 years now.... I will have to revisit when I buy a FRS and a new helmet.

I drove in manual mode so I could hold it in gears. At the back straight it got up to 105 mph in fourth gear. The fifth gear was never used. Damn... I had a lot of fun with that car.... it brings memories back.. *sobs*

The car chasing me was a 1st gen MINI Cooper S driven by a respectable track junky.

Scion will recoup the money lost on the grand prize from charging the Canadians $30k for FRS.

They also state that it's a 'guess' at the final MSRP, which will be announced in June (so far away!), and I think at this point they're more likely to 'guess' over than under so as to not disappoint anyone; they'd rather that we be impressed when it's not 30k CAD. I also heard a Scion rep at the Detroit auto show guessing mid-20s USD, but they know as much as we do.

Hey Non name have you preordered yet? I just did through Belair... I was the first person. Tony graham has two preorders.

If it's over $25000 I'm buying an Infiniti G37S. There is one for $26000 right now with 25000km... it's practically brand new.
