The dealer just called me. They couldn't recreate the noise during normal driving. I requested they also try putting the car under load with the e-brake on. He did hear the noise then but said it is normal and due to the brake pads shifting. That noise matches the clicking sound when the brakes aren't being applied at all so not sure how it can be the pads shifting. Looks like I have to wait until the noise gets worse or the axle breaks. They did torque the axle nuts per my request though so maybe that will help.

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly this "clicking" noise is as this car makes all sorts of noises

15k and I have a rubbing sound that's very very slight and faint on rotation, sounds like a going bearing on passenger rear, but I suspect pending or minor cage damage from too many spins etc. is the DSS axle proven by users here on Fi as being more tolerant than stock to track use/lowered usage on road course?

You'll know if you have the clicking noise. Before my failure it was very easy to replicate the noise under light street driving.

I just put a deposit down on a BRZ limited with plans to autocross it next season. After reading this thread, I'm starting to reconsider. My S2000 had a similar issue. The axles would click due to improperly torqued axles nuts, and the cars were known for damaging cv boots. However, the damage appeared to effect the track guys. My CV boots eventually wore out, but after 80k miles. I was able to flip them to get another 25k or so. The car averaged 1 autocross every othe month since 2007 (some years I had more time to race than others). It looks like the BRZ may not be as durable. Correct me if I'm wrong but running in stock/street requires the use of OEM axles?

I suppose it's not a big deal as long as we're not replacing axles every 10k miles. All I had to do was go on over to Rennlist and read about rear main seal failures. It can always be worse.

I made it 36K miles and hundreds of autoX runs.

Alternate components which are normally expendable and considered replacement parts (e.g., engine and wheel bearings, seals, gaskets, filters, belts, bolts, bulbs, batteries, brake rotors, clutch discs, pressure plates, suspension bushings, drivetrain mounts, fenders, trim pieces, etc.) may be used provided they are essentially identical to the standard parts (e.g., have the same type, size, hardness, weight, material etc.), are used in the same location, and provide no performance benefit. |

I've made a post about the clicking noise a while back, and now I'm starting to see what it can end up in..
They tightened the axle nut and the clicking stopped, but is that an early sign that my axle is going to break? I've heard Moe issues with aftermarket axles too..
