Took mine in this morning, believe they are changing the pump but I'm not sure if it will actually fix the issue or not.

I heard the chirping once in my 10 months of ownership *knocks on wood.

Always used Petro-Canada 91 or Shell V-Power 91, if this can be of use to anyone...

I have had my car for 7 months and have never heard any abnormal noise or chirp sound. I use whatever gas station I am near at the time, but always use premium. I can't imagine it being a "type of gas" issue as it is more of a coincidence. Is that what the dealerships are saying? That it's all about what gas you use? Why would they be changing parts if it's the gas that's at fault? Not to take away how annoying it must be, and I feel bad for everyone that has this issue, but to me, it's a subaru/toyaota engine issue and should be taken care of by them.

Sure it is. The ethanol content in the fuel creates extra noise in the pump. So I can see that a pump change will resolve it.

I consistently use Shell 91 V-power for this reason, (good fuel regardless) and whenever I go to the track and put in Petro (Sunoco) 94 it chirps right away.

I had the chirps while fueling with Shell V-Power as well, but since I've hit 4200k and now 5000km I haven't heard a chirp, so maybe just a drawn out break in period?

This just sounds crazy to me. There are other people who have posted on here saying "I had the chirps while fueling with Shell V-Power as well, but since I've hit 4200k and now 5000km I haven't heard a chirp, so maybe just a drawn out break in period?"
I have never heard of such a thing ever before, in any car magazines, car shows, dealerships or from other drivers until now. And to say its "the ethanol content in the fuel that creates extra noise in the pump" just seems ridiculous!! I don't even mean to say that you are wrong, I just can't wrap my head around this......like I said, I have not heard the "chirps" in my car yet, but if/when I do, it's going back to the delership to get fixed, and if it doesn't for whatever reason, I will be writing to Subaru/Toyota and getting rid of my car with a great deal of dissapointment that two top manufactures in the car industry, made a car that does not run/sound right, due to some sort of crazy, abnormal defect that makes thier "amazing" boxer engine have "chipring" noises when a certain type of fuel is used!
It doesn't matter what car I owned, I would feel the same way!
Your vehicle should not do this, and we should not just pas it off as "the type of fuel we use".......It should be rectified by the dealer, no question.

Had my car at the dealer on saturday for my first complementary oil change at 7339 kms, as soon as I pulled into the express bay the SA was like "How long has your car been chirping like this? We need to get this looked at ASAP".

2 HOURS LATER my oil change was done and they ordered parts and I have to go back later this week to get the pump swapped.

They said it would take all day but they'd give me a car in the meantime.

Never had chirping and decided to test the Petro Canada chirp theory, and sure enough by the time I drove home "chirp, chirp, chirp". Ran the tank dry and switched back to Esso...completely gone.

Since I got mine fixed, I have only been filling at Petro - haven't heard a peep from the crickets. Time will tell.
