I've had the comfort access system in my M5 and although it was pretty convenient, I don't view it as a necessity. I can see why my wife values this feature since she hates digging through her purse for her keys, but I always keep mine in my front pocket. It's not a burden to reach into my pocket and pull the keys out to unlock/start the car.

How are you guys going to compare keys that have been in use for over 2,000 yrs to pagers that have been in use for about 10 yrs. It is more convienent to start your car faster but guess what, you still have to manually open your car. I don't like push starts due to the fact that the key fob is so damn expensive to replace. I see the push start on the same level as paddle shifters and automatic transmissions. Lazy shit! ![]() Quote:

I have to agree with this one. Things like this will eventually break down, specially if you plan on keeping the car for life like i do.

push start doesnt break as mush as you might think it does, my friend put an s2000 push start on his z28 camero 8 years ago and it still works and has never shorted out, all it is is a button, you know how many people i know of who accidently bent their ignition keys falling on them, then tried to straighten it out put it in, and the key got stuck? too many... i prefer smart key w/ push start...

Go ahead and offer it as an option so you guys can pay more but don't make it standard. /thread

Keys these days aren't much cheaper than remote start keys these days anyway, because they've all got transponders in the heads. A difference of maybe $75-$100. When I had to replace the key for my focus a couple years back, it ended up costing me $300... The price hurts but I'd rather the security modern PAT systems offer compared to the, "jam a screw driver in the ignition barrel and jump the ignition relay" days of yesteryear.

Push start is not a passing fad. Its implementation by carmakers is only increasing; it's only a matter of time til it completely phases out the traditional turnkey.
It'll be an option so non-forward thinkers can opt out if they don't want to get with the times.

LOLOL! Actually it is more about saving a few quid on an option some of us do not see as required, enabling other options to be chosen - assuming a fixed budget - especially on a car that is supposed be 'affordable' and focused on the driving experience.

and the price to replace is another factor although admittedly not as big. by the time the system malfunctions (if it ever does), itll be years down the road when push starts is more common in the market and the prices (hopefully) will be lower. and lastly some people just prefer a turn key. its like the whole paddle vs stick thing. No matter how much more efficient/convenient/beneficial shift trannies are some people just preffer stick. I admit im biased towards turn key but not simply because of blind ignorance, there are legit reasons to prefer it.
