Perrin Rear Bushing and Forced Fab Trans Mount Review
I installed the Perrin rear bushing and Forced Fab trans mount this week.
I ordered both parts from Forced Fab. The parts came in two days. I am very happy with my order process and the way the parts were shipped. Although it would have been much more efficient to install these parts together I did them seperately because I wanted to feel the difference on each mod. After installing the Perrin I did not feel a large difference. The notchy or in my opinion, dual clunk was still quite prevalent still. However I did feel that the shift was "lighter". It was a positive feel but not exactly what I was hoping for. Honestly I didn't feel much of any difference. I emailed Perrin to go over how I greased the bushing and ball of the trans linkage. I completed that properly so the install was done correct. Having said that, the Perrin bushing looked great, and fit exactly as described. I think this part will be cursed by subjective feelings at times. The Forced Fab though, that mod was felt instantly. After having it installed I hopped in and really felt a positive change in the shifting. My favorite part is that it fixed the "up and down" movement of the entire shifter after coming off load. Before, when accelerating hard and then coming off the throttle fast, the whole shifter felt like it was raising under the boot. This is completely gone. Also, bonus, the double notchy feel is gone. This part is really awesome. I installed these parts with zero prior mechanical experience. They are the first parts I have ever put on a car. I did it with two jack stands and a floor jack. My jack is really cheap and I could only get the car high enough to be a half inch from my face. I still got both parts done in a combined 3 hours. I only had two 12 millimeter sockets that were medium length and a deep socket. So in order to remove a few bolts to install the Transmount I had to drop the front pipe. I would certianly recommend getting a set of short sockets to do this job. On the flip side I needed a deep socket with an extension for some bolts as well. All in all having both parts installed completely changed the way the car shifts. I think I will go drive it now. |

I do not have stiffer engine mounts. I do not have a lot of mechanical experience so please take this as my opinion only and not fact.
The Trans mount insert does not physically touch the transmission. It sits between the rubber bushing that is mounted to the transmission. Then that mount is mounted to a cross member that mounts to the body of the car. The bushing was able to flex and move much more with the OEM piece. The Forced Fab from what I can tell, just takes up more room and does not allow the bushing to move when the transmission moves. However that rubber bushing still deflects load in my opinion. I should have included this, I had my radio completely turned off and I could hear a bit more drivetrain noise and feel a small amount of extra vibration like people are saying. However not near enough for me to think my motor mounts are now taking the brunt of the shock absortion. |

I have Perrin engine mounts, Perrin positive shift bushing, Kartboy Poly insert and FFJ insert.
The NVH introduced with the FFJ piece is VERY noticeable in my car, to the point I will probably go ahead and remove the Kartboy insert to see if it helps. Noise form about 2.5K to 4K and deceleration is really loud now. I guess its all because stiffer engine mounts + 2 way stiffer tranny mount. NOW having said all that, the shifting is now stupidly awesome. ZERO "notchiness" even cold. The shifts are now completely effortless. It might get to the point I'll learn to live with the increase in NVH.
