Here is the view from the wall, don't mind the car parked blocking the view. You can see the stars pretty well and the parking is paved.

I second Mt. Ham, but sometimes there's too much light coming from SJ that you can't see much. My second fav is Mt. Diablo.

Ok friends,

My grimmspeed front plate mount has completely failed. Half of this is due to abuse and half is poor design (IMO).

Whelp I got a front plate ticket while parked overnight in SF so I need to get the plate back on.

Are any of you guys running the Perrin or other tow hook front plate holder I can check out in person?!?

TIA!

bummer, I can see how the grimmspeed will eventually fail if you keep taking it off and on. Wonder if they would send you a replacement part if you let them know what happened?

Not sure if it will work on an FRS, but you could check out this innovative way to attach a plate without holes -- magnets! Thanks to @mkivsoopra for telling me about this, it works well for BRZs and I will probably do it soon. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=929934

And if you do center mount the plate, you can use the remnants of your grimmspeed mount as a nice secure go pro camera mount:

I second contacting grimmspeed. I have not had an issue with mine since I re-tightened it once about 20k miles ago. I'm sure they would work with you

I only took it off once, then a 2nd time (this time) permanently.

I've had mine on since I got my fix it ticket a few months ago and haven't had any issues with it at all... It's still nice and tight lol anyways.. Maybe the one you had was defective?? Maybe grimmspeed could replace it for you for free? Haha

I'm gonna shoot them a message on the forum and see what they say. Fucking SF giving plate tickets to parked cars!!! I was in a neighborhood too not even like downtown or embarcadero or whatever!!!!

I guess I took living in a no-front-pate-state for granted in the past!

Man, that sucks. One of the reasons I always run a front plate. Ever since I moved here I've been very aware of the parking meter people giving out tickets for front plates. What neighborhood were you in?

Also, what exactly happened to your mount? Did it fall out while driving or something? I've never had any problems with my Perrin front plate mount, FWIW, and I've removed it and reinstalled it a few times.

I was parked on Irving and 4th street. I started seeing a girl that lives in that area. This isn't the first time I've spend the night there, but the first that resulted in a ticket. I guess I better get the plate on or find a new girl! lol... kidding... kinda.

My failure is actaully on the end of the piece that screws into the tow hook hole.

Ah nice, I'm in that area often. Though I make my GF drive if we ever go so you won't spot me haha.

Also, I imagine that would be an awkward conversation.. "Umm, I like you and all, but I really don't want to run a front plate, and you live in SF... soo... yeah...."
