With the kneepads being standard on FRS/BRZ, this mod should be much cheaper to do now. How difficult is the upgrade? Never really opened up the car door panel.

The knee pads will require a socket for removing the center console. Otherwise it's just the pulling apart that can FEEL tricky, but actually isn't tricky. |

Try pulling downward on the top of that piece while lifting up the piece above it. The little clips on the bottom piece are holding up tight against the upper piece. That worked for me.

Is this going to be as easy in a BRZ with push start? I'm in the same boat where my tray will just NOT release. I was thinking that if i took my console apart that it could help???

Technically it's harder because the cubby is smaller so there's less room to grab. Unfortunately it's the one piece you have to remove to continue on with anything on the console.

Try pulling more downwards and at the base corner of the cubby closer towards the push button, possibly. |

There are four points where screws are used to hold the three pieces of the new panels together. Two of them are handled by existing screws, but the other two are not. You could assemble without the extra screws, and it won't fall apart, but it'll probably rattle when the radio's on. The yellow circles indicate the two new screw positions; the orange is a locating pin (the OP may have mistaken it for a screw position, but it's not). |
