Edmunds reported no turbo model will be released in the US, but Road and Track seemed pretty confident that there will be a 2.3 turbo in the US:

This is definitely one to watch..

I have a 2013 5.0 myself. Not really feeling QUITE jealous over the new model 'yet.' It's just the front end, but who knows. Hopefully they'll update photos of the entire car before it's release at the Detroit auto show.

For the Mustang, the V8 has always been the preferred engine with damn near nothing out there for the V6 engine, especially in previous generations.

Most Americans think in cylinders though, so...
The focus ST already has a decent aftermarket and the aftermarket for mustangs is probably bigger than the one for civics.

The 2.0T in the focus is already pretty stout, my buddy put down 233whp and 266wtq bone stock with 800kms on the car.

It might start out slow, but if there will be mods for it eventually. Even still 230+whp/260+wtq (+ since it'll probably be a 2.3 or 2.5) will move a 3100lbs car pretty smartly.

Looks like their render is fairly spot on.

I really hated the Evos concept but if it turns out similar to this it'll surprisingly be not that bad looking

3100lbs is doable. Imagine having a Mustang, with solid power (in whatever small engine they out in it), and a streetable sub-3,000lbs weight after pulling extra junk from the car. Imagine a tossable and nimble Mustang! Wow. If they get everything else right, this has potential to be on my radar.

That text mule looks like it might be gorgeous underneath. Fingers crossed this turns in to something cool. And I hope they keep the sequential rear turn signals or go to amber signals.

The V8 will probably be closer to 3200 lbs, correct?

What are the power estimates at for a normal GT? 430? 450?

That sounds ridiculously awesome. Almost too awesome...

Call me a cynical pessimist, but I suspect that the 400 lbs weight loss may be comparing a current V6 to a Euro-stripped 4 cyl version. I'm going to predict the GT is only going to be ~200lbs lighter than current. Still pretty awesome, but the FT86 rumours vs reality were a bit of a letdown. So I will expect the same here.

Still can't believe that I'm moderately excited about a Ford...

Less than 300hp, more than 2500lbs! What'd we get? 2760lbs with an anemic 200hp engine.

In any case, don't get excited...it'll be like $55000 of those weird ducks you guys use as money.

Nothing a little NAFTA-friendly cross border shopping couldn't fix.

I'll agree with you in regards to previous generations, but the current generation is fairly aftermarket friendly. There might not be a whole lot out there (when compared to the V8), but that's because this engine doesn't need a whole lot to perform.

Take this Mustang for example. It'll run 10's all day long, and nothing too major has been done to it. The build recipe is actually very simple: ProCharger D1 centrifugal supercharger, long-tube headers, 4.10 gears, 80 lb/hr fuel injectors, Circle D torque converter with 3,000 rpm stall, and 295/55-15 Mickey Thompson ET street radials in the rear.

Fancy materials and the other improvements they are talking about sound nice and all, but I thought the whole point of muscle cars was cheap power. A stripped 2013 V8 is already over $30k, with a few options it's easy to get close to $40k.... I hope they can manage to keep the price increase for the next gen from getting out of hand...

I don't need or want a V8. Put something smaller in it, I'm sure it will still make plenty of power (we're still talking about a Mustang here folks), and if its seriously getting close to 3k pounds then a LOT of enthusiasts will reconsider blue oval for the first time maybe ever.

Don't you have to pay an import duty and some other hideous stuff? That's why I didn't sell my WRX to my uncle. Even at a super duper family price, after import duties and inspection etc. stuff it wasn't worth it.
