I heard Ford was using the powerplant from the Focus ST. There is no way a 4 cylinder turbo will cost as much as the V8 unless it can make 450+ hp stock. V8's typically carry a hefty premium over a V6 or I4 turbo.

Looks like a cross between the current mustang and a new fusion, not bad at all.

I drive like 80-90% city. If you look at Fuelly, the average Mustang V8 gets like 20mpg in mixed driving. Knowing my driving style and how much city driving, or sitting I do on the freeway at rush hour, I would be lucky to get even 20. My guess is closer to 18mpg. Especially here in the winter when I typically see a 10% drop in fuel economy due to winter fuel mix.

Still hard to tell, but I still feel like when I sit in this car it will feel so large due to the massive hood. I have been driving Japanese sports cars for so long that it is hard to drive a car where I see a huge hood in front of me. It makes the car feel so much larger than it is, and it is one of the first things I fell in love about with the FRZ...

It would flop if priced that high.

Ohhhh man if even half of these rumors are true this is going to be a pretty awesome car.

My buddy owned a 2012 V6PP and a 2013 GT/CS and I really liked the V6, it was lighter and nimbler than the GT. For some reason the GT felt huge and floaty.

The v6 will still be base, but if we can get into a 2.3T for around $30k and 3000lbs then this will be quite the car.

Okay, those are some good shots. The hood looks shorter to me than previous models. This is looking interesting.. Can't wait to see more.

The success of the turbo will depend heavily on the aftermarket IMO. If it's priced right and takes well to mods (as most turbocharged engines do) then it's very possible it could be a domestic tuner hit. Look at the Genesis: the V6 is arguably the better car, but the 2.0T is preferred by the aftermarket. For the Mustang, the V8 has always been the preferred engine with damn near nothing out there for the V6 engine, especially in previous generations.

Most Americans think in cylinders though, so...

There's tons of aftermarket for the V8 in the Mustang though. The V6 in the Genesis Coupe is a fairly weak engine, and for any kind of significant power increase requires a complete rebuild. And Ford Racing just released a few supercharger options. Granted, they're not cheap by any means, but it's also not going to be cheap to get a turbo up to 600+whp.

It's rumored to use a version of the ST powerplant that'll be a larger displacement (2.3L-2.5L) from what will be the Focus RS, not the ST. Good for some 300-350hp, (probably on the lower end of that for the Focus, higher-end for the Mustang).

And, yes, V8s typically do carry a hefty premium. But not necessarily any longer. On an ever growing lineup of vehicles Ford (and others) is successfully convincing people that turbo-4s are better buys than larger displacement motors and that they should fork over a lot more cash for them over a base model. It's been an extremely successful model for Ford, and they will guaranteed continue it with the Mustang.

And I didn't say it'd cost as much as the V8, just closer to the V8 in price than to the V6. Ford charges a staggering $10,000 premium for a V8 right now. There's virtually no chance that the Turbo-Stang will be less than a $7500 premium over Base; plus as with all the other models it's been putting the EcoBoost into, it'll package it up with a bunch of other goodies to go along with it. With the price increase as well, my money would be on a starting point for the Turbo in the range of $32K. That'll probably put it at the same starting MSRP as the V8, but it'll have more standard equipment. If they decide to keep the equipment somewhat similar between the V8 and i4 models, you might see the Turbo-4s at the magical $29,999 point, but I'd be very, very surprised.

They sure in the world aren't going to be in the $25K range you mentioned -- their own Focus (a lot less power, FWD, will be heavier, and a Focus) starts at higher than that. It'll probably be equipped similar to an ST2 FST and start about $5K higher due to the added costs of RWD, being 'cooler', and just because they can.
