Borla UEL Header, Perrin 3" Front Pipe...

So about a month ago I installed the Perrin "Big" 3" Catback exhaust on my car. Fit, quality and sound were all awesome, and actually better than expected.

When going to order my Perrin 3" Front Pipe and Perrin Overpipe, I was lured into the purchase of the Borla UEL Headers, by what I thought was a good deal at $569.95 SHIPPED.

So I pulled the trigger. Thanks to Jordan at Defined Performance I received all parts within two business days of placing my order.

The quality on the new Perrin 3" Front Pipe and Perrin Overpipe appears excellent and they certainly fit perfectly. I continue to be impressed with their quality of workmanship.

The Borla Headers FIT perfectly, with no installation issues, however from a aesthetic standpoint, I was less than impressed with appearance and quality of the welds. That being said it went in more quickly than I had even anticipated, without a single hiccup.

Install time for me on all three pieces, INCLUDING setting the car up on the dyno, running it 3 times and taking it off was 2hrs 15minutes. Not bad, considering the headers on my E46 M3 took me 8hrs to install...

Please keep in mind that this car does not have software yet. Calling FA20Club and ordering ECUTek and their N/A software is next on my list of purchases. I did install an O2 Sensor Spacer under the rear sensor, although I doubt it will be adequate for keeping my CEL off, we'll see.

The car FEELS noticeably better to me after install, and from a performance perspective I am pleased that I decided to do the headers in addition to the front pipe and overpipe. I am new to Subaru's and am not yet sure how I feel about the sound created by the UEL headers, I'll see if it grows on me.

Installed Pics, Dyno Video and Dyno Plot (It was quite warm and INCREDIBLY humid when I dyno'd this morning.)

Only ran it to 6200, as the ecu didnt have any time to adapt, and I didnt load software, I didnt see the point in flogging it. I will do full redline pulls before and after software.

Make sure you post which tune you went with and final power numbers. This is the exact setup I'm looking at, except with a stock catback.

That TQ dip is already gone without the tune..nice! You will love the FA20Club tune with this setup!! My setup is similar but I have 2.5" catback. Super easy install on the header for sure!

Nice work!

My plan is the FA20Club tune, should only be a few weeks. Ill load it on the dyno; do one or two full pulls as is, load softwarez, then do two or so more pulls.

Thanks Chad! The Torque Dip elimination/reduction is extremely noticeable on the street. My car still only as 1,300 miles on it and with this set of modifications its really much more of what I had originally expected the car to be like from a power delivery standpoint, when stock. Cant wait to get software.

How much louder would you say it is (cruising and wot) and with the stock catback did you get the rumble at idle?

I only ran the stock catback for about 300miles, so I've had about 1000 miles with only the Perrin 3" Cat Back. With ONLY the cat-back I thought the car actually sounded good, without being overly loud when cruising with light throttle.

This setup is loud, almost from the moment you crack the throttle at all.

Just to be clear, it doesnt sound bad, I'm just not sure the UEL is for me. I'll see how I feel about it in a few weeks.

Very nice numbers, you wouldve probably easily hit 175-180whp.. you're just teasing us.

BTW, I dont think your dyno video works, funny how someone already gave you a thumbs down, lol.

Jordan at Defined Performance (I always just facebook him) sold me everything.

The front pipe is their new 3" Front Pipe. The Overpipe is unfortunately not 3", Perrin only offers a 2.5".

nice! I was waiting for someone doing 3" on a NA set up.
but if you have a before and after dyno, that would be perfect because there is a debate going on that 3" set up would lose power and all.
do you think there is a power lost overall?
thanks
