I wanted a Challenger R/T with the 6MT (My Dad had a 73 'Cuda when he was my age), but couldn't afford one as they hold their value well. I was considering a Camaro SS and an STi (all used), but after I drove the FR-S my heart was set. I guess I'd rather a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

Was considering the BRZ and 2013 Gen Coupe but the FRS won me over in the test drive and the fact that the dealer was willing to give me what my previous car was worth unlike the subie dealer

Genesis Coupe (felt way too large and numb)
Fiat 500 Abarth (wouldn't let me test drive)

I had talked to most subaru and scion dealerships in the area (6 or so) to let me know when BRZs/FRSs were coming in so I could actually see one in person and test drive.

ONE salesman actually did so. I test drove it, and ordered my car the week from him.

And then a subaru dealership called me the week following when I placed my order, and 'let me know' that they had 2 brzs... at $5000+ dealer markup.

Anyway, it was good customer service that for the most part lead me to my final choice.

I thought of buying another used car (Toyota Tercel '97 and Volvo S70 '99 before that, both slushboxes with lots of mileage). Then I remembered that I make a good salary, I'm no longer a student and that I could afford a new car.

The FR-S came naturally

-Cayman S - price, utility, maintenance
-BRZ - availability,
-BMW M4 (F32)
-BMW 4 Series (F32)
-BMW M2 (F22)
-BMW 2 Series (F22)

The Cayman is the only car I'd be willing to sacrifice all utility for, but I could not find a decently priced Cayman S and was ultimately worried about cost of ownership.

Also, I couldn't wait any longer for the new BMWs, especially when the twins were getting rave reviews and the new F30 series were getting luke warm reviews. Comments like the Cadillac ATS out BMWs the BMWs (handling and handling feel) makes me think the BMWs have gotten too soft, bloated, and lost their special balance of utility & sport.

I actually never got the chance to test drive one, but I inspected almost every inch of it I could at the Auto Show a couple years ago. Asked the rep all kinds of questions... I really wanted something sporty and AWD for snowboarding, but the fiance convinced me we didn't need two snow-capable cars. Also--at almost $35k for all the bells and whistles I wanted, I realized the price just wasn't reasonable for me.

And the dashboard cluster really bothered me in the Mini.

But, the Mini Cooper I saw racing around the Ladies Autocross school last November in Fontana really made me think hard again for a bit... they are great lil cars, but I don't think I'd get the same joy of driving in a Mini as I do in my FRS.

mkiv Supra
Genesis Coupe

911 (early 90's)
NSX (1st generation)
240sx (s-14)

I nixed ze' German's early on after I reminded myself on my past German car ownership experience (mkiv GTI vr6). The 2 seaters (c5, nsx & 370z) didn't quite have the space to haul my dog, my fiance & luggage for a weekend trip at the same time. The Supra was a car that I've always lusted over, but finding a clean example that I could daily was too expensive; and I could never get over the way the rear passenger window on the Genesis "scallops" down. I couldn't find a s-14 that wasn't ragged to death, and I didn't (still don't) have the time to build up 2 driving projects.
I originally looked for a BRZ, but the local dealer had a 6 month wait (back in Aug '12) & was charging $2k over list. The FRS was available in less than a week in the color I wanted. The right car came at the right time at the right price, so I bought it...

Ever since I got my FR-S... my motorcycle sits way too many days in the garage... while I'm tossing my FR-S through the back roads where I previously would have shot through on 2 wheels....

Mustang GT
Camaro SS
Used corvette
370z

Seriously debated the gt. But in the end it just didnt feel right. My goal for the car was budget dd and weekend track toy the frs fits the niche perfectly

Nice corvettes were too expensive and consumables would cost too much at the track. 370z is too much of a boat for a sports car. And I reallyyyy liked the Camaro but I felt like I was driving an SUV and could barely see out of the damn thing.
