Hi all,
This past Monday I had the TRD exhaust installed on my BRZ, have put on about 200 miles or so on it. I also have the TRD cold air intake. How loud is this exhaust supposed to be? The exhaust is loud enough where I don't hear the engine until it gets past 4k rpm, and interior get loud and boomy - definitely too loud for someone in the back (short friends) to chat with driver/front passenger. Drones/gets boomy during highway cruising. So far my experience doesn't seem to match the reviews (quiet when cruising, no droning, etc), then again maybe my expectations were different. I guess the better question to ask - for those with the TRD CAI or deleted intake sound tube, at what point in the rev range are you able to hear the engine over the exhaust in the interior with the windows up? |

I got the trd combo and mine is not as loud as you makes yours sound to be. Below 4k rpm the sound is nice and rich but it won't interfere with a conversation. Between 4-5k rpm it really sounds good but again not loud enough for passengers to want out. Wonder if the install is incorrect somewhere or the exhaust is leaking.

I have the TRD CAI and love the sound it makes. My exhaust is pretty loud but I can hear the intake when my foot goes to the floor and when on the highway in 6th gear cruising above 75mph.

![]() Maybe because it's still in break-in phase, but the exhaust drones very loudly for me when cruising at 70-75mph. Not that bad when cruising around 55-60mph though. Did a drive from Chicago to DC, and it gave me a headache, especially on the PA turnpike with all the uphill/downhill sections. Drowned out the music I was trying to listen to. I'll give it a couple more months to see if the droning dies down a bit (driven about 1k miles with exhaust, most of it Chicago-DC), but if it doesn't the stock exhaust will go back on. I probably had wrong expectations for the exhaust, given that this is the first car I've tried to modify in such a way. |

This is my experience with the TRD exhaust
TRD exhaust alone with no mods: Was a bit too loud with the sound tube. TRD exhaust + TRD CAI: Much better, cabin noise has been reduced significantly. TRD exhaust + TRD CAI + Unichip tune: Same as before but slightly louder, better sound. |

I don't see a hole, but I notice the tab that is sticking up where the pipe and tip meet. This is just a tool to help align the pipe and tip when they are assembled. Is that what you mean?

Is your tab removable? Also, it is problem with me running like this? It doesn't look that pretty when you see it, and I paid a pretty penny for it, so would like for it to be right. |

I found this install guide for the exhaust:
http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/017...-18131.pdf?248 Doesn't say anything about tabs that I can see. But surely a hole going straight through the pipe right before the tips is not good, right? Trying to figure out if I should leave it as-is, or take it back to the dealer and see what they say . I would think it would effect sound somehow too, but want some more input before I get the dealer involved. |

Sorry...not a tab for installation of the exhaust, but for lining up the tip to the pipe before the welding process. It speeds up production and makes sure the tip is properly aligned. I don't have a TRD cat back, but I'm pretty confident that's what it is. Hopefully someone with a TRD system will confirm theirs is the same. If it bothers you, I would nip it off with a die grinder or dremel.
