I feel very sorry for the owner.

Be careful who you trust your cars with people.

Car belongs to @brzturbo

Here is his post he recently made... I couldn't copy the url using Tapatalk for some reason...

I feel sorry for his loss.... Just trying to spread the word of the horrible service he received.

"I am the owner of the BRZ that caught fire while John Visconti was test driving my car. Don at Accelerated Performance did the install, and John tuned it. My experience with both companies has been a bad one. I was hours away from getting my car back. John called me and said “you are about to have a very bad day. We had an accident…we’re talking worst case scenario type accident. I need you to meet me at the shop ASAP.”

I soon learned my car was totaled. This experience has been a total nightmare for me. I want to forget about this and move on with my life. AS of today 8/14, the results of the fire are still under investigation! Subaru now has my car and is looking at it very closely. My advice to anyone working with John Visconti, don’t do it. John Visconti has been dishonest to all of us. He has denied ANY responsibility for what happened because he did not install any parts on my car! It is my personal opinion that he doesn’t care about the safety of anyone using his products, only the sale. Visconti is a bad vendor and should be banned from this forum! As for me, I will not be replacing my BRZ, and John…you ruined much more than my day."

Insurance companies are not obligated to provide you coverage for aftermarket parts. Much like issues with the manufacturer on warranty, a lot of insurance providers are not mod-friendly due to excessive claims or fraudulent claims from insured.

In the case of AAA, when I set my insurance up I was told that if I had mods in the future (wheels, stereo, body kit, etc), if I want it covered under insurance I have to let them know and keep copy of valid receipt. My premiums may go up depending on the type of mod and risk, but in the end it's simple:

(Cost of replacement of car + cost of replacement of parts) x risk formula = your insurance premiums.

Assuming identical twins living in the same zip code driving the same car with same risk profile, insurance is based on the replacement value of the item(s) being insured. It's up to the company to see if they want to cover aftermarket mods or not, and this usually needs to be communicated beforehand or else it may not be covered.

The person you're replying to, his friend's insurance company most likely would have covered the mods if it was properly communicated in the first place. Some mods don't raise your premium, some do. A fancy stereo will make your car more attractive to thieves, as will wheels or items you can steal easily.

Insurance companies have every right to deny insurance replacement on items that significantly alter the value or appearance of a vehicle.

This.

I am a claims adjuster in my day to day, and based on the type of policy something like this could happen the carrier could deny.

The majority of policies that I work with exclude any and all aftermarket equipment aside from what was able to be purchased through the dealer unless the items have been declared and additional premium paid. Lots of people assume that carriers automatically cover everything on the car, they don't. They cover everything that was on the car when it left the lot brand new.

The majority of carriers offer additional coverages for mods for a ridiculous amount of premium.

I actually have had to deny a Porsche owner because he was lowered and had an upgraded turbo which caused the fitting to his oil drain to hit and break on a speed bump. All the oil ran out and the engine locked up.

It had to be denied because had the car not been lowered and had the aftermarket turbo and lines, the incident would have never happened. Had he had the additional coverage he would have been fine. I didn't want to, but I had no choice.

The thing with this is that the carrier isn't going to be able to tell from the remains that the car was supercharged, but a few searches and these threads could be found easily, it all depends on how much digging the adjuster thinks is necessary. If the owner doesn't have a sketchy claims history it might not be an issue, though fire claims are always heavily looked at because of fraud.

This totally sucks, and I really hope his adjuster cuts him a break, but at the end of the day he's bound by a contract.

Just a note. I have no idea what the owner's situation is. I was just making a broad statement.

Just because the mods shut down the other thread as I was typing this..

I'm surprised this thread is still running since it's against the forums golden child Visconti.. It's a shame this forum as good as it is.. Puts the power in the vendors hands as "they lay the bills" I love the forums that the members pay the bills through donations and memberships..

Then I noticed the thread closed with out reason.. Figures..

Edit.. Afterwards they give reason lol
