So drop an extra $10 every time I fill up? Doesn't sound practical at all.

Tried this last night and used half the bottle. While it does work as a "bandaid" for now not planning to use it all the time. Just wanted to see if it actually helped.

I agree. I will silence the crickets on special occasions.

Well, I got home from work today, and couldn't hear any crickets. I revved the engine a little bit and heard the crickets, but they went away fairly quickly. I'm going to continue to listen for them, but before today they had become intermittent, I just didn't want to say anything and jinx myself. I'm nearly at 12,000 miles, all stock, pretty much just use Sunoco 93 (their pumps do state up to 10% ethanol too).

You have to get the granules. The liquid concentrates are useless. On the plus side, everyone behind you has a clean windshield.

On some hot days after stop-and-go or spirited driving down the twisty roads I use to avoid I-5 traffic, I sometimes lose the crickets. But they always come back.

FWIW Costco 92 Octane. Their gas is pretty high quality, I actually noticed a significant MPG bump between ARCO and them in my Outback, and now I avoid ARCO when Costco's available.

crickets

I have around 1700 miles in the two weeks I have had the car, I have always put Conoco 93 octane non-enthanol gas it it, I hear the crickets at start up until it gets warmed up. No clue, sounds more like it's coming from the pulley area, but havent dug into to deep, to much fun to drive than sit with the hood open.

Burned the last amount of fuel with ethanol in? That would explain it.

Ya'll just aren't mechanically-minded enough. The solution is simple. I installed this sticker on my car last week, and the little bastards haven't even tried to come back.

Ok, wiping the .... out my BRZ with mostly Chevron gas seem to help. Contacted Subaru of America today. To see what they will do about it. Just being a jerk and leaving a paper trail.

Most people have the noise, it does not cause problems.

It's up to you if you want to consider them "normal". You can go to your (or any) dealer and complain and they may replace the fuel pump as part of a warranty service but odds are the noise will return and your likely outside the range of vehicles the service applies to so the dealer may say it's normal and they're not going to do anything.

I wasn't suggesting you do that, since 10 bucks seems like a big deal to you... Not for everyone. Guess it depends on how much the noise really bothers you. And like I said, I put a half a bottle in, so that's $5 dollars.. Half the price of a full bottle. This is when there is no ethanol free gas around. Ethanol free gas will cost about $4 more per fill up anyway if you can find it in GA. Either way, never said it was economical but it gets rid of the noises I don't like in my car. See ya.

in·ter·mit·tent adjective: intermittent 1. occurring at irregular intervals; not continuous or steady. "intermittent rain" Ethanol-free gas seems to reliably squash the crickets. Some of the fuel-additives seem to shut them up as well. A "new" pump under warranty has been the same old pump with crickets. There does seem to be a re-designed pump either out there now or coming soon. I'll wait a while to see what problems the "new" pump has before I get one. An "extra" ten bucks a tank is worth it.
