Plasti Dip Problems - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Back in June when the Man of Steel movie came out I dipped my car superman themed.

I laid down 4 coats of the blue then I laid the carbon fiber pattern down and did two heavy coats of blaze blue. After that all dried I taped off the shield and put down 3 coats of blaze yellow and then used a darker yellow over that to complete the carbon fiber look again in yellow. Then finished taping the S and sprayed 3 heavy coats of red on top of everything.

A week after I had dipped my car I was involved in a flooding and I seized my engine. Insurance covered all expenses but it took about 2 months to get back to me. All that time the car sat in the sun not moving. Anyway I peeled the car today. . .

It looks like the red bled thought staining my paint. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on what I can do to remove it. Scrubbing with soap and water does nothing, neither does a pressure wash

I'm guessing the red paint you used wasn't plastidip?

All plasti dip. Light blue gallons, blaze blue on top of that, the blaze yellow and plasti dip red for the shield.

Try "Dip Dissolver". If you're pressed on time, Goo Gone may work as well.

I have no idea how to get that off, and I would probably cry if it were my car. Unfortunately right now I can't help but laugh when I look at those pictures.

Like the above posters said, just use polish or other paint restoration compounds. It should come out. Alternatively you can just re-dip your hood white for a funky look.

I an not upset about it, and have dipped many other vehicles before without a problem. This is something new though and just wanted to get some input on what everyone thought. I have every intention of dipping it again but might not be doing any decals or extras until I figure out if this was a one time thing or something the clear coat of this car does when dipped. I almost like the ghosted look of the symbol.
I will try the polishing compound and what not tomorrow and see if that helps, thanks for the quick responses.

Does the surface feel raised at all ? try some WD40

Just wanted to say that the super man dip was pretty sick looking! Anyway, I would get in contact with someone at https://www.dipyourcar.com/home.php

They might have some suggestions for you if using some rubbing compound doesn't work. I would also try a bit of rubbing alcohol (70% isopropanol) to see if it would come out - I've had good success with rubbing alcohol at getting gunk off the car. Also nail polish remover (acetone) - just don't leave it on your car's paint too long and remember to wash off the acetone afterwards.

Also, you can take it to a reputable, professional detailer/restorer. It's really unlikely the dip went through the clear coat, at most it was partially absorbed by the clear coat I think. A professional should be able to take care if it.

If all else fails... new carbon fiber hood or vinyl wrap it black!

It would look great on white
