It's a feature that is still to this day advertised as a STANDARD FEATURE. not once did anyone say that this auto off feature being non-existent in the US version FR-S is ruining their life.

However, people do make mistakes and I'm sure someone in this thread will at some point forget to turn off their lights and when they do, the battery will discharge for 20 minutes (until it automatically shuts off). Something that shouldn't be happening because this feature should have come with the car. This isn't a discussion about how difficult it is to turn off lights. I don't know about you but I don't want my battery discharging for 20 minutes in circumstances where the lights are accidentally left on

Edit: I just got off the phone with the manager that is the highest up apparently and he said that the auto off feature does exist in the form of the automatic battery disconnect after 20 minutes. I'm going to see if it's worth filing a complaint with the BBB. the auto off feature is still listed on scion's website. Has anyone here already done this. I believe I would file it as false advertising right?

Getting this back on topic, I'll post here after I reach out to the BBB. if anyone has any tips please let me know. Unfortunately the monroni sticker in my car didn't list auto off headlights as a feature but the scion website still shows it as a standard feature

1.) Are you looking for Automatic Headlights? And by that, I mean, they are 'smart' and turn on when its dark and off when its day time/car is turned off. This is a 'set it and forget it' setting as they're controlled automatically.

2.) Or are you looking for just Automatic OFF, as in, you must manually turn on the headlights when you want to use them, but in an instance where they're on and you turn off the car, they turn off with the car? This will require manual control everytime you want to turn them on though. If left in the 'On setting', it would just be On when you start up the car, regardless of day/night

I do think for option 1, there would certainly need to be a switch or option on the light switches. This way it can be switched from On/Off/Automatic modes.

For option 2, I don't think any sort of switch should necessary. The car just needs to kill power to the lamps when the ignition is set to off. Clearly there needs to be SOME logic to enable/disable when needed, but I wouldn't expect it in the form of a manual switch or lever.
Option 2 would be great but most vehicles that have automatic off headlights actually have a separate 'Auto' setting on the stock which turns on the headlights, etc.

I don't believe it's possible to change a setting on the FR-S that would simply enable the auto off feature

That's the oddity. On the 10 series there is an auto choice on the stock. So why they didn't use it for the stock FR-S is beyond me.

Easy... it's cheaper... which is the point of the FR-S, the 10 series is a special edition, thus they chose they high end model vs the base model.

They saved money on headlights, and eliminated the whole photosensitive system...

There's really nothing to file a complaint about here. The car HAS the advertised feature, it's just not the feature you (and I) thought it was. It's not even really a misrepresentation unless you asked for clarification and they told you something different than what it is.

I've moved on, I suggest everyone else do the same.

It has a battery protection feature that I believe shuts off any power going to the car. Although that in effect turns off the lights, you can't say that calling that feature "auto-off headlights" isn't misleading. However, I really don't think I have as strong of a case I thought because the auto-off headlight feature isn't even listed on my Monroney sticker.

Saying that the FR-S has the auto-off headlight feature would be like saying that your house has automatic lights that shut off after 20 minutes, but instead of only the lights turning off, all power to your house is shut off after 20 minutes.

I get what your saying though, because of technicalities, I feel it would be very difficult for even someone with the feature listed on their Monroney sticker to get the actual feature installed

Thumbs up TechStream confirmed

I have the EU Stalk on a Scion FRS, the front fogs work great, I will be running the wiring for the Auto portion of the stalk to take advantage of the Auto Headlight Off after 30 secs. The TechStream showed the FRS already had the 30 sec Auto Lamp Feature enabled. I can attest it won't work without the Auto Stalk and Auto Dash Light Sensor and all supplemental wiring hardware . I used TechStream to shutoff the Passenger Seat Belt Warning Buzzer, so my daughter can leave her school backup, purse, iphone etc on the seat without setting off the alarm. It also works great for Ecutek Data logging withoout the laptop setting off the alarm.

To me it was frustrating because after having the feature in the 16k tC and getting used to it for 8 years, I was surprised to not see it in my 25k FR-S.

Strange the Australian GTS model has this as standard. Set the lights to AUTO, they turn on when it's dark and turn off once I open the door after turning off the car.

RWD, 6 Speed manuel, 50/50 weight distribution.

And that's what this car is. Not to mention the feeling of being in a race car just siting still...
Oh no, I get that. And after seeing the 2nd gen tC lose little things like all-auto windows (up/dn, driver/passenger), I'm not exactly surprised. Seems like it's a simple no brainer to include though, and it was one less thing to have to think about.
