FRS Auto Off Headlamps - False Advertising?
The lack of auto-off (auto-cut) headlamp function has been brought up a few times on here. The FRS is advertised as having "projector beam headlamps with auto off" as a standard feature. This is listed on the official scion website, their print brochures, dealer websites, and even the factory-printed window sticker that comes with the car. Several dealers that I've contacted have confirmed that the US-spec FRS does NOT come with auto off headlamps.
I'm surprised such an egregious error in the Scion marketing materials has not been corrected in the 7+ months this car has been available. Since toyota is liable for false advertisement (and basically fraud), has anyone been able to receive compensation/install the auto off function for our cars? I smell a lawsuit coming... |

Just leave them on. It's an auto off feature I like to call "letting the battery die."
But seriously, I never saw any advertising like that. |

Is this something changed recently or by territory? I ask as when my key is out and lights on around 30-40 seconds they shut off.

Maybe only Canada has it, mine goes BEEEEEPPPP when I turn off the car and open the door without turning off the headlights.

I am pretty sure if you leave them on and turn the car off and lock the doors once they will go off after a time period.
No hit the lock button twice and pow off they go. sent from a Galaxy SIII...

It's not hard to turn the lights off. That being said, it's also not hard to have an auto-off feature. I say it every time this subject comes up, but it's a valid point. My twenty five year old Celica had auto off headlights. It was triggered by the same door jam switch as the dome light. How has that become too difficult to do now?
As for the OP - never really noticed the official standard feature list. If it's really in print then lead the charge. |

But on the other hand what if I wanted to keep my headlights on once I got out of my car, e.g. to light up something on/near the road? Not sure how that would work with auto off headlights as I never had the need to do it when I had my Celica, but it may happen. |

If it was like my old one, you just turned the headlight switch off and back on again (with the ignition off) and then they'd stay on until the battery died.
