Only use 3M and buy the low adhesion tape. Water will cause slight residue and I wouldn't rec to leave it on for more than a 14hr period. For a 5-6hr drive it be fine.

I might consider this since I didn't even think about it when I drove to cali last month.

Where would you tape exactly?

I would consider doing the A pillars too. I have a small chip on one of mine.

If you want to get rid of the residue (if there even is any, 3M works great) Just give her a quick wipe down with some goo gone spray on a rag and she'll be good to go

I have never had residue marks from 3M light adhesion tape. If someone gets it though quick detailed takes it off.

Bumper, 1/3 of hood, mirrors, 1/3 fender. Anything else if your anal.

If you have agressive wheels from the top center of the fender slanting back about 1/3 of the fender behind front to avoid turning tossing up rocks.

Or you go like me, don't wash the car, buy a clear bra to make the paint last 1 year longer than the 2 years it will stay painted before nothing is left but chips & dings from highway driving back and forth to California. Mmmmm photoshop cream. :P

Why 48 hours?

P.S. The Costco coupon on Bridgestones has been extended until September 1. Also stock size RE-11As are on backorder, but if you ask a manager they should be able to get the discount set up anyways.
