I am not really trying to argue with you about whether or not people would buy a BRZ STi here in The States for $35k+. Someone would. Obviously neither Subaru or Toyota thinks that enough people would for it to be worth building at the moment. There are a decent number of people on here that will talk up and down about how they wish there was a turbo or supercharged model and they would totally jump on it if only Toyota/Subaru would release it. But I would put good money on a lot of those people changing their minds when the car hit the showroom floors with a $35k price tag on it. I don't know, this is probably the third thread where I have argued with people about an FI model of the twins not being financially viable. If there was money to be made by "slapping a turbo on it" and selling it for more money, I am pretty sure both companies would be all over it. It is not like they don't like money. |

The turbo thing is a done deal because Subaru already has an emissions certified 300hp turbo version of the FA20 in production! ![]() It would be academic for them to put that motor in, add some brembo sourced STI brakes, and new wheels and tires (everything currently in production and ready to go). Their only expenses are some revised suspension tuning and the government mandated paper work. I would gladly place a cash bet that a turbo BRZ STI is inevitable before this model run is up

This article and pretty much every other one that has popped up recently has cited Automotive News as their source for this info. Funny thing is that Automotive News has been saying that the turbo and convertible were cancelled due to their price being too high for a Scion model for over a year now.
http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...#axzz2aniSWAOs The original Automotive News article is from July 30 2012 The newest one is just a rehash of that old article with a 2013 date. If you do a search you'll find these same types of articles popped up last year all citing Automotive News as their source. Like this one: http://www.0-60mag.com/news/2012/08/...ome-stateside/ or this one: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...s-for-america/ Since we've seen a near production ready FR-S convertible concept at a recent auto show, I would totally disregard anything Automotive News is saying. They have no F'ing clue what they're talking about.

I hope you like Starbucks: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/08/04/s...s-coming-soon/
We'll see how it actually plays out. Could be the new turbo FA20 engine they have been developing or it could just be the same as the BRZ S package that Australia just got... I am hoping for the latter. The enjoyment of my base model FR-S is not going to be the same if there is a higher performance model that I can't afford all over the place. "Oh yeah, I think Dylan has one of those FR-S/BRZ things. Oh wait, it's not the STi model so who cares?" Edit: Not sure of the validity of the info on this site, but seems legit and right inline with the latter option above: http://www.7tune.com/news-the-facts-...ti-ts-version/ Edit 2: Also now realize that this has all already been covered in another thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43358 There are too many threads in this forum to keep up with all of them. I click new posts but I don't have time to look at all 5 pages on new posts every time I hop on the forum. Last edited by DylanFRS; 08-05-2013 at 08:55 AM. |

Don't count my chickens before they hatched! Not that I have any issues with some yummy Starbucks products but we actually need to see a turbo in production. I know that all of the pieces are there and Subaru can do it whenever they want; I do have a suspicion they won't release a turbo version of the BRZ to for quite a while avoid irritating Toyota who have already said they will never turbo the car. I expect we'll be waiting years for a turbo BRZ.If they get another 50hp out of this STI they'll probably do it by massaging the existing NA FA20.
