Yeah, probably varies a bit for everyone, the quarter panels don't rattle so much as "boom" with road imperfections. The CLD bits stopped that cold. The door beams had a bit of rattle, but CLD around them as best I could stopped that.

Thanks for the input... I'm getting a good idea what to target. The Invidia N1 exhaust went on today and it's LOUD, but tuned with the Unichip is a nice bit of improvement, performance wise. However I will be addressing the boomy noise it makes starting tomorrow. Stay tuned for a new thread.

Quick question: Will putting MLV in the doors significantly reduce road noise? Where should I deaden with MLV to effectively mitigate road noise? (not exhaust sound)

I have a whole roll of this waiting for me to install. I don't know how much of a decrease it will be.
To reduce road noise, I would imagine that throwing MLV in the doors and rear quarter panels would give you the most benefit. Just remember that you need something like CCF to act as a buffer between sheet metal and the MLV. |

I've heard about the CCF quite often; if I didn't use CCF would it be a drastic difference? In my trunk I used only MLV to reduce the exhaust note and it did a pretty good job. Side question, is it necessary to have a perfect surround? If I use a few velcro strips to adhere the barrier to the door (not perfectly sealing every outer hole like glue would) would it be worse? edit: After thinking about it it makes sense actually. Sound travels better through solids so creating a layer to decouple the metal from the MLV should noticably help reduce the sound. I may have to go back and stuff some CCF under my MLV in the trunk.

Not to start an auto vs manual flamefest, but I'm glad you've got the chance to enjoy this car like I have, with three pedals. There have been some infrequent days that I haven't been able to drive, and a few more where working the clutch hasn't been comfortable, but I don't think I made the wrong choice.

This was a great help to me, thanks!
The sound with stock door speakers is much improved. ![]() ![]() Door closes with a thud, not a thunk/clunk. ![]() ![]() The JPM Door speaker covers look so much better as well, thanks Andrew (JPM Coachworks) ![]() I also installed JPM Coachworks Parking Brake Boot and Knee Pad ![]() ![]() While I had the center console out I applied Raammat to the tunnel area in and around the Parking brake portion which is uninsulated from the factory. I also applied Raammat to the area in front of the front seats on the floor and the area of the firewall that was reachable, the passenger side proved easier and more effective as the overpipe/frontpipe are close by. It is less noisy at WOT.

Thanks for posting your pics Tony, it's a very clean-looking install.
I love that "thud" sound, don't notice it as much with the BRZ (still more a "thunk" than a "thud") as I did with my Si, but I probably used 3 times the amount of Damplifier on that car. Used to be hilarious when someone new rode with me and was used to the stock Honda doors. I may revisit the doors when I do the rest of the car now. I've been procrastinating, but circumstances now dictate I will be deadening and wiring the interior shortly.

Anyone know where to buy MLV cheap? I just need like 20 sq ft (I'd like to pay less than 60 if possible..) but it's proving difficult since local shops are expensive and internet shops need bulk or have high shipping rates.
The best bet I found is ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1lb-Mass-Loa...item1c1ec473e8) which sells 60 sq ft 1lb MLV for 134 free shipping which equates to $45 for 20 sq feet but I would need to find someone else to buy the 40 sq feet off me.

This is what I ordered:
http://www.tmsoundproofing.com/Mass-...d-40-feet.html I know it is not the 20 sq/ft you were looking for, but it is less of the product. |
