Yep - uses the stock preload. Its a matter of pulling the tensioner back, taking off the new belt, putting the new one on.

Apt observation. The orientation of the tensioner with the system installed in relation to it's corresponding pulleys is identical to a showroom stock FA20 engine's serpentine layout. For the belt to come out of the groove and make contact with the shield, the tensioner would have to be on its way out, completely shot or the belt would have to walk off of the side of a pulley which could only happen if something were out of alignment or loose. Other then constant hard driving/and or track use or an extreme heat environment, your belt maintenance requirements should be identical to a factory FR-S/BRZ.

The one thought I had about he belt walking off was if you don't have all the spacers correct when you install the new idler puller on the alternator it could cause the belt to walk off the pulleys.

Yes, if assembled in the wrong order this would certainly fall under putting the belt out of alignment. I helped write that part of the manual so I hope it is clear.

I thought it was pretty clear but I could see how someone might mess it up and its the only thing I could think of causing the belt to walk off other then the supercharger tweaked somehow..

This or the reinforced version. I would stick to Gates brand but other brands like Goodyear or Continental are likely just fine as well.

Is there any kind of oscillation in the belt as it runs?

The belt supplied with the kit is the standard belt not the reinforced correct?

I believe this is correct. The reinforced one is the blue one.

Yes, the belt in the kit is the standard version which should be just fine. The blue reinforced belt costs about 3 times as much. Keeping a spare belt and some basic tools in your spare tire well would be a good move even in a bone stock car.

I did just that. Ran down to my local O'reilly's today and picked up an extra belt to have. I am suprised for as bad as my alt cover was chewed that the belt didn't really suffer any damage. I have since ordered a new cover and replaced. I keep checking tension and clearence now as I don't want this time happen again.
