another thing to consider is the options, of which none have been revealed.

so the question is, will the first 86 be able to choose any extras or will they all be the same?

I just had an "aha" moment and apologize if this has been mentioned already. Another purpose of First 86 is probably to capture a "snapshot" of hotspots across the US that should take delivery. Scion already has a rough idea of the key regions from past sales, but First 86 will provide greater resolution as to which dealerships within each region should get X cars with Y colors and Z configurations. It's a supplement to any dealership waiting lists already going on (but not all dealerships do waiting lists). This supplemental info is critical as stock coming from Japan will be extremely limited.

So if First 86 asks you to specify your color, transmission, etc., you can almost expect one to be delivered to a dealership by your home. (I'm probably shooting my thread in the foot by saying this lol)

Anyway, First 86 is still an indicator of demand and market conditions probably for the purpose of allocating dealership deliveries. And I still say market conditions during the quarter leading up to product launch can influence MSRP.

You should have left it at "I'm not familiar with your scion brand".
good lord...

"scion motor sales" is the same as "toyota motor sales" just like lexus motor sales. the point of my last post was that SCION is not the manufacturer but a distributor, SCION or TOYOTA motor sales USA is buying the GT86 from Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Japan.

Toyota Motor Sales USA is a distribution department, they are not a Manufacturing dept. every country that sells a Toyota, Lexus has one.

its a website about getting a car early and not a site that just discovered the cure for cancer. don't overthink it, they just want to create more buzz before the car comes out.

the car will be available in your market in less than 3 months manufacturing already has all the needed supplies (eg: metal, colors, engine and transmission parts, etc...) they have what's known as a build supply. they've already decided what % will be manuals vs. automatic for every market (global), same goes for colors (they don't have paint cans sitting at the factory). build supply can change every 6 months if a particular color isn't selling or if they need to change transmission % breakdown.

they already know which market or in your cases states and cities that sell scions well. i would think the warmer areas or areas known for having a huge car culture will be the ones that will get more of the GT86. i'm also sure they have regional breakdowns for allocations. meaning new york city is in a different region than say los angeles and will have different allocation of trim, transmission, colors based on the region.

I have had a $1000 Cash deposit down on the FR-S for a few months now at our local dealership, I feel that I would have been one of the first for this region.

I am hoping when I go on line tomorrow and fill out the appropriate information, Toyota will research down payment in the system and hand out letters accordingly.

Am I wrong to assume this

You could say Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Japan isn't the manufacturer either.

Regardless, your post made it sound as if Scion was some company importing random cars that just happened to be made by Toyota. I won't claim to know how it works but I doubt ToMoCo US is buying X units at X price in the way you stated.... maybe though. Either way, sorry for misunderstanding your original point.

They aren't even orderable yet from the dealer. Scion's HQ has no idea who you are or that you put a deposit down on a car.

My predictions..

The first of the 86 winners cars will be delivered in may and the rest of us get it in June. Sounds good. Scion said the 86 people will be choosen randomly. So there is no science to this.

Price will be very reasonable $23k not $28k unless they decide to add in all the stuff from the highest spec Toyota 86. The pioneer bespoke will be standard. No way will this car be $21k!
And finally I think we will see the price tomorrow...

Just thought it would be appropriate in this thread:
" He happily pointed out that a recently launched but totally unpublicized hand-raiser website to judge interest in the new FR-S drew over 10,000 sign ups in its first 10 days of operation. "

Source: http://www.kbb.com/car-news/all-the-...fr_s-revealed/

Judging from the 10,000 in 10 days (can't say too much since we have no idea how many people signed up each day and if it was depreciating per day etc etc) I wonder if we can draw any references to how many people will be signing up for this thing =T *please note that the article listed was written in 12/1 and I am not drawing to draw any conclusions just trying to present some facts in as much of a non-biased manner as possible.

But at 27k why would you get the scion when you can get the Subaru that comes standard with more features? Referring the the first page.

Also I saw only one person bring up options for the first 86.
My dealer told me that push start was not a option available for the first 86, when he told me that I was like screw the first 86 I'll wait a few weeks to get a car I want with the options I want!
You guys remember when the iPhone first launched? I worked for AT&T then, I had a line of 100 people outside my store, they all got one but guess who was back when the iPhone 3G came out? The same people and they got stuck with that phone because they weren't able to upgrade, same principle applies here, you might get the car first but you might be getting something you aren't happy with.
Just think about that before you sign up.

You have a damn good point. I guess we will have to see what kind of options we will be able to choose from. I know I'll probably be getting one when I get back from deployment this late spring/early summer, if the price is right of course.

It's not random. They say it's random but it's not. I'm sure they have som internal criteria for choosing people. Cross referencing their email with Facebook/twitter or something. No point building buzz unless your "winner" spends all day twittering.
